Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the Ikea Brimnes bed with integrated drawers and plan to use them for storing clothes as well as somewhat heavier items like tools and books. I have a question: what is the average weight capacity of the individual drawers in the BRIMNES system?

It would be very helpful if someone has experience or even exact information about the approved load limits, perhaps based on IKEA data sheets or personal testing.

My main concern is to know the maximum load without damaging the drawers or causing wear on the runners. Thanks in advance for your support!

The drawers in the BRIMNES bed typically hold about 10 to 15 kilograms (22 to 33 pounds) per drawer. No more than that, as the runners and the frame are designed for this load. If you store heavy items, I would recommend considering 10 kg (22 pounds) as the upper limit.

Hello Eric8,

I own the BRIMNES bed myself and can share from personal experience that Ikea has not officially published exact figures, but based on the material and track quality, I can confirm that around 10 kg (22 lbs) per drawer is a reasonable estimate. My drawers have been in daily use for over a year with clothing, a few books, and small items.

It is also important to distribute the weight evenly and avoid concentrated loads in the center to prevent the drawers from sagging or the runners from wearing out.

If you plan to use the drawers for heavier loads, reinforcing the drawer bases might be a good idea, for example by adding an extra wooden panel underneath.

Wow, it’s great that there are already some experience-based insights! 😊 I love the BRIMNES system because it offers so much storage space – but of course, you want to know what the drawer can handle, right?

My advice to everyone: it’s better to be a bit cautious and not push the 10-15 kg (22-33 lbs) limit too much. That way, it will last easily for several years without any issues. Good luck filling it up, it’s really fun!

I find this information somewhat vague. How were these values determined exactly? Official load tests from IKEA would be ideal; otherwise, is this just based on practical experience?

Additionally, it should be kept in mind that different versions or production batches of the BRIMNES models can affect load capacity. The load-bearing capability may also change over time due to frequent use and material fatigue. It would be interesting to receive more detailed information here, possibly including specific test results or guidance directly from IKEA.

An official load rating from IKEA is unfortunately difficult to obtain. Such details are usually not included in the product information. Therefore, I contacted customer service: they informed me that the drawers are designed for daily use with a load of up to approximately 15 kg (33 lbs), depending on usage and even weight distribution.

Something else to keep in mind: the drawer slides are standard IKEA components and tend to come off track more quickly if overloaded. So the general rule is to allow some margin and avoid fully loading them.

Personally, I would recommend not putting a permanent load near the upper limit but rather planning for a maximum of 12 kg (26 lbs) per drawer.
