Hello everyone, I have installed several IKEA Platsa units on the wall and have noticed a slight wobbling, especially when the shelves are loaded. My question is how to effectively and permanently eliminate this wobbling? I have checked the basic setup; the units are properly assembled and attached using the IKEA mounting brackets, which I consider stable. However, I still feel a bit of movement, particularly at the corner joints. Does anyone have experience with tips or tricks to secure wobbly Platsa units against swaying or rocking? Thank you in advance for any advice! Which additional measures provide the most stability?

The load limits are provided in the installation manual. In everyday use, simply ensure an even distribution of weight, avoid point loads, and do not overfill compartments. Otherwise, it may become unstable.

To improve stability, small washers can be used with the screws to prevent them from pulling out. Additionally, reinforcing the corners inside the shelf with metal brackets is recommended to reduce twisting.

The most effective method is to secure the shelves to the wall using angle brackets.

Could you please explain this in more detail? Do you mean angle brackets on the outside or inside of the shelves? Are these special brackets, or standard metal brackets from a hardware store? What is the best way to attach them without damaging the appearance?

I am referring to discreet metal brackets inside the corners that reinforce the shelf and secure it to the wall. Standard brackets from a hardware store are sufficient, as long as they are rust-resistant. The brackets will not be visible from the outside since they are installed on the inside. Attach the screws to the shelf using pre-drilled holes or drill new holes with the appropriate diameter.

Great thread, I love Platsa and have tried quite a few things myself! It’s important not to skip the back panels; they really boost stability! Also, make sure to tighten everything regularly—that makes a big difference! You’ve got this!

As an addition: If the shelves stand on an uneven floor, wobbling can also be caused by the floor contact. A few felt pads or small plastic bumpers under the feet can help reduce the problem.
