Hello everyone,

For some time now, I’ve had the problem that the drawers in my IKEA Pax system no longer slide smoothly. Often, they feel stiff and sometimes even catch slightly, making opening and closing quite annoying. I have the impression that the issue might be related either to the drawer slides or to worn-out hardware.

Does anyone have tips or experience on how to effectively fix this problem? Are there any specific maintenance steps or replacement parts I should consider? I would like to avoid having to remove the entire drawer or even buying new ones.

Thanks for your help!

Good morning,

Based on my experience with various Pax systems, I recommend the following, especially when the sliding drawers are equipped with full-extension runners:

1. Remove the drawer carefully by releasing the locking mechanisms on both sides.
2. Check the ball bearings: if dirty, clean them with an appropriate cleaner. Consider replacing them if there is play or damage.
3. Inspect for any deformations in the construction, especially lateral warping that might hinder smooth operation.
4. Use a dry lubricant (silicone-based); avoid grease- or oil-based products.
5. After treatment, test the movement several times by repeatedly opening and closing the drawer.

How heavily are your drawers loaded? Are they subjected to heavy or moderate weight? This significantly affects wear and tear.

Hello Nujaman,

I know how frustrating it can be when a system that should be so practical suddenly gets stuck. I experienced something similar with my Pax drawer. What helped me was being patient while cleaning and carefully checking if the rails were properly aligned. Sometimes the problem is simply that one side is slightly off or misaligned, which is hardly noticeable but can greatly affect the movement.

If you like, you can get back to me if you still have problems after trying these first steps. Maybe together we can find a solution.
