Hello everyone,

I am planning to replace the doors on my Ikea PLATSA wardrobe because I want to change the design while keeping the furniture’s original functionality as much as possible. I have some questions regarding this: What practical tips are there for replacing Ikea PLATSA doors to make the process as efficient and clean as possible?

I am particularly interested in whether there are any special considerations when removing the old doors, the best way to attach the new doors, and if there is anything specific to watch out for with the hinges. Also, whether any special tools are needed for the replacement or if common issues can be avoided.

I would be very grateful for any helpful advice!

I would like to add from my experience that when installing doors in Ikea Platsa units, you should handle the hinges very carefully, as they can be easily damaged.

The hinges usually consist of plastic and metal parts that can break if twisted.

When hanging the door, do not force it, but guide it properly—the clips should slide smoothly into their designated slots.

It is also advisable not to enlarge the holes on the inside of the furniture to ensure a secure hold. If a hole does get damaged, it can be repaired quite well using small wooden dowels and high-quality glue.

The following points are especially important when replacing the doors of the PLATSA:

- Remove doors slowly, avoid sudden movements.
- Release hinges using the lever.
- New doors only fit if the hinge mounting is identical.
- Attach doors with a Phillips head screw.

Tools: cordless drill and spirit level. That is sufficient.

One last tip: After installing the new doors, always retighten all the screws.

Especially the screws on the hinges can loosen slightly during installation, which can cause the doors to hang crooked later.

Also check the magnetic catches, if present.
