Hello everyone, I am currently considering getting an Ikea Pax wardrobe for my bedroom. Since such purchases are usually intended to last for a long time, I would like to know: What is the average lifespan of Ikea Pax wardrobes? I am especially interested in how stable these pieces of furniture are in everyday use under normal conditions, whether they remain functional after several years, and which factors might affect their durability. I look forward to your experiences and assessments!

whether the hinges and sliding rails might fail after several years of daily use (opening and closing doors, drawers)That is a valid question. In general, the metal hinges and sliding rails used in Ikea Pax systems are designed to function smoothly for 10 years or more, provided that:
- They are kept clean (no dirt or dust in the tracks)
- No excessive force is applied, such as slamming the doors
- The doors are not overloaded, especially on the inside surfaces
One aspect many overlook during assembly is adjusting the hinges afterward. Ikea hinges are adjustable in multiple ways, which allows fine-tuning after a few months to prevent sagging or rubbing.
If signs of wear do occur over time, replacement parts can be easily purchased and swapped out.
This means: with normal use and care, you generally don’t have to worry about these components failing prematurely.

One point that many people overlook during assembly is the readjustment of the hinges. That’s a good tip. However, it would be interesting to know whether such adjustments are often necessary or only happen rarely.
One could argue that frequent readjustments indicate some instability or flexibility in the material or construction. Especially if these components need to be readjusted several times during normal use, it might suggest a limited lifespan.
Can anyone share how often this occurs in practice with an Ikea Pax? Personally, I see this as an indicator of the overall quality of the piece of furniture.

Can anyone report how often this occurs in practice with an Ikea Pax?In my experience and based on feedback from my acquaintances, the need to readjust the hinges is most common within the first 6 to 12 months after assembly. After that, the structure usually stabilizes, so only occasional fine adjustments are needed (after extended use or particularly heavy loads).
This happens because the wood and fastening elements settle and shift slightly under load. An Ikea assembly manual explicitly mentions this possibility, indicating that it should be considered normal behavior rather than a defect.
In practice, this means there is no cause for concern or indication of poor quality; rather, it is part of regular use and an advantage that the hinges are adjustable at all.
In summary, I consider the hinges and sliding rails to be durable if they are well maintained and excessive force is avoided.
