Hello everyone,

I’m hoping to get some ideas on where you would place water access points in the garden. Or rather, where it would be best to lay water pipes now if you might want to have at least partial automatic irrigation in the future. It’s clear that automatic garden irrigation requires more planning. However, I don’t have the time or motivation for that at the moment. It also doesn’t seem likely that this could be done anytime soon. But at least we could plan and lay the water pipes now, so that the option is available later. Attached is a sketch of the current garden plans. The following facts apply:

  • The terrace including the roof is already built
  • Breakfast terrace and paths are only planned so far, but these should not be the topic here
  • The garden is not yet established, and topsoil has not been spread
  • Raised planting beds are planned for the upper left area. I definitely want to include a water point there
  • To the right of the garage, the ground slopes gently up to the street. Something low-maintenance will be placed there
  • Below the house is a light well, and to the right of the light well is a heat pump
  • A pump will later be installed in the cistern, so water pipes can be routed from there
  • From the cistern there is a conduit leading to the garage for a water pipe
  • In the garage, at the upper left, there is already a tap with mains water and a utility sink

Maybe you have some inspiration or ideas. I would appreciate it. Thank you very much.

What do you mean by branching off after the box? The loops are always located (after the respective valve). You still need to plan for the pipes for the drip irrigation.
Place the sprinkler by the terrace right in the corner.
Otherwise, it looks solid. It’s only final once the garden and irrigation are completed. These are not lasers, so being off by a few centimeters (inches) doesn’t really matter.
An automatic irrigation system is great. Once you have it, you definitely won’t want to do without it.

The yellow pipe branches with a T-joint in DN32 after the manifold box. Otherwise, there are T-pieces inserted between the pipes, which then reduce in size to the sprinklers.

The supply lines are in black. How the individual beds will be set up is not yet finalized. That’s why it’s important for me, first of all, that the DN32 pipes are planned and installed. Unfortunately, much of our project is done step by step. That means the next step is only reviewed and planned on site once the previous one is completed. Things also change quite often...

Do you mean the top right corner of the terrace toward the garage? The lawn won’t be directly against the garage wall there. Something else will be installed in that area. Or are you referring to a different position?

Yes, I meant above at the terrace/garage.
Use DN32 everywhere. Only the short section from the loop line to the sprinkler is smaller.
I would also change something about the pipe routing.
Not everything in a straight line, but for example at the blue circle at the garage/terrace level, branch off to the other side. You will need more end caps, but you will get a more even pressure distribution.

Do you mean something like this?

Site plan of a house with terrace, garage, garden, and irrigation lines.

Yes, something like that. You could also shift it a bit to the right. It’s just meant to prevent the pressure at the last sprinkler from dropping below 2.8 bar.

Should a HDPE pipe actually be laid in a sand bed? It might be better, but is it absolutely required?
