Hello everyone,

As mentioned above, we want to get a robotic lawn mower to start the spring season.
Which ones do you use, recommend, or avoid, and why?
Does it have to be a Husqvarna, or is a Worx also good enough? Why one and not the other?
I’m very interested in hearing about your experiences.

Best regards

Glad to hear everything is working.
Light frost at night is not a problem.
At the moment, the grass is not really growing much.
Better to turn it off again and keep Luna in the garage for another 2-3 weeks.
Please keep the station plugged in. The warming of the components allows it to stay outside without any issues. We no longer dismantle stations...

I have tried to deal with the topic of robotic lawn mowers several times without success. Maybe someone has a tip.

We have many flower beds, outbuildings, paved areas, etc., but I estimate the mowing area to be about 350-400 m² (3750-4300 sq ft). However, due to the beds and individual patches, everything is very fragmented. Mowing by hand is quite annoying because of this. We also have an old wired mower, which is a nightmare. The area is flat. I can gladly make a sketch if that helps. There is no problem with space for a charging station or power supply. We have children, cats, a small dog, and definitely several hedgehogs. The mower can basically only operate on weekdays in the late morning to early afternoon.

Any ideas?

Make a small sketch.
If you have only short mowing times and a complex area, the mower should be sized larger.
It also depends on how many perimeter wires you need, which influences the choice of mower.
Do you have mowing edges? Otherwise, strips of grass will remain along walls.
Sure, I could already recommend a model (Husqvarna 450X) that will definitely work (3 perimeter wires, 5000m2 (1.24 acres)) :p. But it doesn't have to be that extreme.

For 400m2 (4,300 sq ft), a complex shape, and less than a quarter of a day mowing time, you will need a mower for at least 2000–3000m2 (0.5–0.75 acres).
That means the largest Gardena or a mid-sized Husqvarna (if you look at these two brands).
For 1,700 to 2,000 euros, you can get what you need (internet prices, not MSRP).

I might consider buying a good cordless mower with a mulching function. Cordless mowers have become quite reliable nowadays!

How many centimeters (inches) of mowing edge do current robotic mowers require? Do the Gardena / Husqvarna models still drive randomly and only reach every spot by chance? My robotic vacuum creates a map and operates systematically – I expect the same from a robotic mower...

There are also models with GPS. Most of them operate in a random pattern.
Guided mowing usually only works well with simple garden layouts.
For this reason, for example, Bosch robotic mowers often struggle with complex gardens.
Try placing your vacuum robot on the lawn or driveway. It will be interesting to see how it tries to create a map using the sky;)
There is no real added value in the garden, unless you specifically need perfectly even stripes on your lawn. In that case, I recommend a reel mower.
The cutting width along the edges varies slightly depending on the manufacturer and model.
