Hello everyone,

We are currently in the construction phase of our single-family home. We are actively gathering ideas to make daily life in the new house easier.

So far, we have:
- A laundry chute from the bathroom on the upper floor to the washing machine in the basement
- A platform for the washing machine to allow easy loading and unloading
- Pantry shelving with rotating trays

We have also considered:
- Building a small utility room behind the living room cabinet (sideboard) to house all the TV equipment (satellite box, DVD player, receiver, hard drive, etc.) out of sight

To illustrate, I’m attaching three photos.

Maybe some of you have a nice REALISTIC idea that could be implemented.

Thank you in advance for your ideas!

Best regards,
Slintrebla

So, honestly – what do people watch on TV all day long???

Morning breakfast shows for about 15 minutes while getting ready in the bathroom? I could imagine having a screen with a fireplace effect and crackling sounds while taking a bath in the evening...

And in the kitchen? Cooking shows while cooking myself? I don’t know, that seems a bit silly to me, I think.

I really can’t imagine it, and I usually enjoy watching TV. But since I have children, I don’t watch anything before 8:15 PM (20:15). Before that, it was sports, zoo documentaries, and one or two series.

We have had a built-in bio-waste bin integrated into our countertop for years. It is nicely flush and sealed airtight with a metal lid on a rubber gasket. All kitchen waste goes in there. This way, I don’t have to take it out for every little thing. Usually, taking it out once a week is enough. What I would also like to have is a separate hygiene spray next to the toilet (not integrated). I’m still not completely sure about automatic drain stoppers. They sound great at first, though.

In the bathroom, I only planned this for the bathtub – I wouldn’t watch anything there. Watching TV in the morning is out of the question...

In the kitchen, it’s just for fun – maybe to catch the news or have some background entertainment while snacking.

I don’t want to bother myself with it later.

I watch TV for about 30 minutes per week at most, so it’s not really something for me. In the bathroom, I’m too busy to watch a TV anyway, and if you get up early, you don’t waste any time. Sometimes I just turn on the radio. Otherwise, most of these are more luxury than practical everyday convenience ideas.

Hello,

I completely agree with that, 100%.

In the new house, the TV will be hidden behind a sliding door in a shelf.

Thanks to Skygo, Amazon Instant Video, and Netflix, we don’t watch regular TV programs as often anymore.
It’s just more convenient. And I still like my plasma TV. I only had it repaired recently because a few capacitors failed.
But I hadn’t thought of using the TV as a recipe display. That’s a good idea. Too bad we took the TV down from the kitchen again because we didn’t really need it there.
What was important for us was having a TV connection and network outlets everywhere.
Even more important was the utility shaft where we can pull cables or make other additions at any time if we need something.
Something I also don’t want to go without anymore is our indirect lighting on the stairs. It’s just great. It gives nice light without being too bright.
