Hello everyone,

We are currently in the construction phase of our single-family home. We are actively gathering ideas to make daily life in the new house easier.

So far, we have:
- A laundry chute from the bathroom on the upper floor to the washing machine in the basement
- A platform for the washing machine to allow easy loading and unloading
- Pantry shelving with rotating trays

We have also considered:
- Building a small utility room behind the living room cabinet (sideboard) to house all the TV equipment (satellite box, DVD player, receiver, hard drive, etc.) out of sight

To illustrate, I’m attaching three photos.

Maybe some of you have a nice REALISTIC idea that could be implemented.

Thank you in advance for your ideas!

Best regards,
Slintrebla

So, not even watching movies?

Yes, we do, but on the laptop — we also have a 48" TV, but it’s packed away since we couldn’t find space for it in the apartment during the move... and I have to admit, I don’t miss it.

Urgh, we were just watching SkyGo on the laptop, but that was simply rubbish.

But now finally back on the plasma TV.

There are many people who have given up on television. My cousin and her husband are among them. They have a huge house and a lot more money than I do... but basically no TV... (somewhere they have a small one, but does it still work?).

I respect that.

As much and as often as I read (really a lot), I also like to just relax and watch something occasionally. I have no problem with that... it’s not tiring, and it’s nice and colorful.

Before we had the satellite system, we used to watch Sky Go and similar services on tablets and Macs and so on... It works... but it’s not great. Especially back when the internet only delivered about 2 to 3 Mbit/s (if at all).

Sebastian, I got rid of the plasma TV five weeks ago. It used about 5 kWh/day (yes, per day), mostly for my TV-addicted wife. Since it’s gone—I do miss the great picture quality—my power consumption dropped from 15 to 10 kWh/day. When my wife was sick (broken foot), it was 18.8 kWh/day. Just the plasma TV. It was like a heat source with a built-in TV feature.

I can’t share that experience – I have two plasma TVs (50 and 65 inches), and the larger one actually uses even less power (but it’s also the newer model).

Well, maybe your wife is quite addicted and keeps the settings very bright?

5 kW – how long does the unit run?
