Hello everyone,

We are currently in the construction phase of our single-family home. We are actively gathering ideas to make daily life in the new house easier.

So far, we have:
- A laundry chute from the bathroom on the upper floor to the washing machine in the basement
- A platform for the washing machine to allow easy loading and unloading
- Pantry shelving with rotating trays

We have also considered:
- Building a small utility room behind the living room cabinet (sideboard) to house all the TV equipment (satellite box, DVD player, receiver, hard drive, etc.) out of sight

To illustrate, I’m attaching three photos.

Maybe some of you have a nice REALISTIC idea that could be implemented.

Thank you in advance for your ideas!

Best regards,
Slintrebla

We have also planned for TVs in the bathroom and kitchen – at least there are connections available. The devices themselves don’t cost much anymore anyway...

In the garage, I still have an HDMI out from the system plus satellite and LAN – you never know.

Number 10 sounds decadent

Hi YPG!

Yes, it does sound that way. I agree with you.

Some people said that before seeing it themselves.
90% of them ended up recreating it after a few days (when possible).

- Installing the satellite cable myself: DIY. A few extra dollars for cable, but I laid it myself anyway. The antenna socket… well, that didn’t really matter anymore.
- Shelf: 50 Euros online
- TV: 169 Euros on special offer (quality product)
OK: A small radio would have been cheaper, but it wouldn’t have been as entertaining.

I’m definitely far from decadent.

By the way, the first person to suggest in point 10 that it might be decadent was my wife.
Now she uses the small TV every morning and evening. She even said just recently she can hardly imagine a bathroom without a TV anymore.
The guest bathroom, by the way, has no TV… Guests just have to do without, but at least in the living area, there’s a TV with a matching powerful sound system (really old brand but still good, even though it occasionally costs me some time for maintenance).

Best regards,
Thorsten

PS: The really decadent idea of installing a small TV in the kitchen to mirror recipes and such from a laptop or tablet via Apple TV hasn’t been implemented yet, even though the connection is there. For now, I still walk around the kitchen with the tablet. Haha.

We have TVs in every room, only the hallways are without... why is that considered extravagant?

Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with that. We have the same – just not in the hallways, guest bathroom, or utility room.

TVs are pretty inexpensive nowadays.

I need to add to my list above:
Point 15.
- A satellite dish positioned so that it can be easily cleared of snow with a quick swipe through the double casement window used for chimney maintenance. Needed about once or twice a year… My wife is happy when the TV signal works again.

Irony on – With this excellent TV show, it is absolutely unavoidable to constantly surround yourself with televisions everywhere you go. – Irony off.

I agree. Only when my wife has no reception with the "P....ten D***er" (I don’t watch it), bad mood is guaranteed....

With irony...
