Hello everyone,

I am considering adding rubber bumpers to the doors of my IKEA Kallax shelf unit to soften the closing and make it quieter. My question to you is: What experiences have you had with retrofitting rubber bumpers on Kallax doors?

I am especially interested in which type of rubber bumpers work best, how easy the installation is, and whether it really makes a noticeable difference in noise reduction.

Also, do you have any tips for mounting them so the doors fit well and don’t stick?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I recommend thoroughly cleaning the surface beforehand to improve adhesion.

That’s a good tip, thanks! Did you use any specific cleaning agents? Just wiping with alcohol, or is water enough?

Also, are there rubber pads specifically recommended for Kallax, or do you use general hardware store products?

I want to avoid the adhesive coming loose after a short time or pressure marks forming.

I completely understand your concern – having doors that close softly and quietly is definitely an everyday improvement. 🙂

Some time ago, I fitted Kallax doors with rubber bumpers purchased from a hardware store. At first, I was unsure if this would actually make a difference. But after installing them, I could clearly hear the improvement – the doors no longer rattle and close more quietly.

What was important to me was that the bumpers weren’t too thick, otherwise the door would stick out slightly. After a few attempts, I found the right size.

If you like, just let me know, and I’d be happy to share more detailed tips on how to approach the process.
