Hello everyone,

I am currently considering whether installing a magnetic door catch for the doors on the KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA is really worthwhile. My goal is to achieve a more stable and, above all, quieter closing without having to completely replace the doors. Has anyone had experience with the magnetic door catch? I am especially interested in how well it holds, whether the installation is really that easy, and if the durability meets expectations.

Are there perhaps any drawbacks that are not immediately obvious? For example, whether the magnets lose strength over time or if there are issues with the doors not closing fully by accident. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Hello pavlo-pu,

I have been using magnetic catch systems for my KALLAX for about a year now and am overall very satisfied. Installation is really straightforward – usually, you only need a screwdriver and the screws, which are often included. The magnets provide a smooth and almost silent closing of the doors.

Regarding durability: I haven’t noticed any significant loss of magnetic strength so far. However, during installation, it’s important to align the magnets so that the doors don’t pull too strongly or stick when opening.

One downside could be that the doors sometimes make a slight rattling noise with very small gaps when the drawers are loaded. But this is quite rare. Overall, I recommend this system, especially if you want to avoid drilled or glued solutions that could damage the furniture.

If you have any more questions, I’m happy to help.

I have been using the magnetic catch for my KALLAX for 6 months. Easy to install, holds well, and the doors close neatly. I have had no problems with the magnets.

Hello pavlo-pu,

Regarding whether a magnetic catch for KALLAX doors is useful, it really depends on your requirements. If you want the doors to close quietly and securely without much effort, it is a good solution.

I have been using these magnets myself for 2 years. It is important that the doors are properly aligned and the closing mechanism is correctly positioned. Some users have reported that the magnets can weaken with very frequent opening and closing, but I have not experienced this in my use.

Another advantage is that the magnetic catch also helps prevent accidental opening, for example if the shelving unit gets bumped.

If you want to know something more specific, such as about particular models or installation tips, just ask.

In short: Yes, I use the magnetic door catches. They work well, are easy to install, and ensure the KALLAX doors close properly. No issues with loss of magnet strength so far.

Use the magnets as well. Advantage: doors no longer swing open easily, especially if the shelf is a bit unstable. Installation takes only a few minutes; in my case, the magnets have held for almost a year without any loss of performance.
