Hello,

My wife has noticed a strong, unpleasant smell in the bathroom for about a week. We ventilate almost every day.

Today I noticed it too. Suddenly, there was a very bad odor. I was able to trace it, and it was coming very strongly from the shower drain. Our bathroom is tiled at floor level. No one has showered for a week, but someone has taken a bath once this week.

The bathtub is on the same side as the shower. I poured drain cleaner into the drain just now. The smell seems to have gone away.

Have we done something wrong in general? Can such a smell occur?

After the bath, foam and so on were rinsed off again. The building was completed in mid-2014.

Thank you

dried-out pipes actually smell like rotten eggs (if I remember correctly how the unused drains in the floor of my old workplace smelled).

What exactly is meant by "a pungent odor" in this case? I interpret beissend as chemical...

Maybe this is the reason for the strong odor

The words actually describe the cause. We also have two tiled showers. Especially in the guest bathroom, which is used less often, we frequently notice an unpleasant smell.

Our site manager said (after the plumbers had checked everything) that it might be due to a dried-out trap. In a walk-in shower, the trap is smaller/shorter – so it can dry out more quickly, especially with underfloor heating.

I will also try the tip from @Computersylvia – although, in terms of “saving water,” this can’t be the final solution.

@Computersylvia
I tried it this morning and should be able to tell by this evening if there is still any smell.
