Hello everyone, I am currently planning my new kitchen with Ikea Metod and facing the challenge of designing the kitchen layout to be ergonomic while also as space-saving as possible.

I am particularly wondering how to optimally adjust the working height, as I have read that this is crucial for ergonomics. I am also interested in how corner cabinets can be used to maximize storage space without making it impractical.

Has anyone had experience planning Metod kitchen layouts, especially with a focus on ergonomic workflows and space-saving solutions?

What tips do you have, for example, regarding the arrangement of the individual units (base cabinets, wall cabinets, countertops) and the integration of appliances to avoid long distances and unnecessary movements?

I would appreciate concrete suggestions, possibly including advice on common mistakes to avoid.

For me, 70 cm (28 inches) is optimal

I completely agree. It’s better to have a bit more space between the main work areas. I originally planned for only 50 cm (20 inches), but experience shows that this quickly becomes too tight in daily use.

Also, when choosing Metod, make sure the front panels and hinge types are compatible with future adjustments in case you want to remodel later.

In summary, the following points are recommended for a space-saving and ergonomic Metod kitchen cabinet:

- Adjust the work height individually
- Prefer corner solutions with drawers
- Clearly structured division of work areas in a triangular layout
- Usable countertop space between the stove and sink of at least 60-70 cm (24-28 inches)
- Avoid unnecessary walking distances by arranging appliances in an integrated way

Any compromises should be realistically assessed to ensure good working quality.

Thank you all for the many helpful and specific suggestions. I have now recalculated everything and decided on a working height of 91 cm (36 inches).

I will now approach the corner cabinets using the drawer option, as the space in the magic corner is likely to be quite limited.

I will also use a distance of 70 cm (28 inches) between the stove and the sink as a guideline. Overall, this now feels much more practical.

If anyone has further advice regarding the arrangement of appliances or the optimal use of wall cabinets, I am still happy to receive suggestions.
