jupa70Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to better organize my IKEA METOD tall cabinets and am looking for ways to optimize storage space with smart internal inserts. My main goal is to achieve more order and practical use without having to completely rebuild the cabinets or invest in an expensive solution.
Does anyone have experience with which internal inserts work best for METOD tall cabinets? Are there proven options you would recommend, for example, for pots, pantry items, or smaller kitchen utensils? The aim is to make the most of every centimeter (inch) while still making access easier.
Looking forward to your tips – whether DIY, IKEA inserts, or third-party accessories!

Hi jupa67,
From my experience, the IKEA METOD tall cabinets offer great flexibility when you use the right interior fittings. I especially recommend the pull-out baskets and rails that can be installed at the bottom. This way, you can easily access items stored deep down that are usually hidden away.
For smaller items, I like to use those small organizer boxes that fit perfectly inside the drawers. This keeps spices and small cooking utensils in place and helps avoid the usual clutter. 😄
Oh, and if you often work with pantry supplies: a few simple, stackable boxes with lids make it much easier to keep things organized!
Good luck—I think it’s great that you’re tackling this project!

I completely understand how challenging it is to make the best use of tall cabinets. I also struggled for a while because the standard shelf height and depth didn’t offer enough flexibility. What helped me was combining drawer inserts for smaller items with rolling carts that can be integrated into the tall cabinet.
The rolling carts make access much easier, especially when storing pots or larger storage containers, as you can pull them out completely. At first, I was worried about whether the mounting would hold, but the quality is surprisingly sturdy.
If you like, feel free to share what kinds of utensils you mainly want to store – then we can think more specifically about which inserts might work best.

Hello jupa70,
your goal to optimize METOD tall cabinets with clever interior inserts addresses a key aspect of kitchen organization. For efficient use, I recommend a structured approach:
- Create a detailed list of the items you want to store in the tall cabinets. Size and weight are important factors.
- Use adjustable shelves that can be precisely adapted to the height and depth required. METOD offers several height options.
- For pots and lids, specially designed dividers and organizing systems are recommended. IKEA, for example, offers pot lid holders that can be attached to the side.
- Tubular cloths or small items can be well sorted with smaller boxes or removable containers. Pay attention to flexible dividers.
- Drawer runners with full extension and soft-close features make it much easier to remove even heavier loads.
Technical tip:
Proper installation of the pull-out systems ensures stability. When planning, consider the maximum load capacity and correct alignment. Being impatient during installation often leads to problems in practice.
Would you like a specific planning guide with measurements? If so, please provide more details, and I can create a tailored recommendation for you.

To optimize storage space in IKEA METOD tall cabinets, the following proven internal fittings are recommended:
- Adjustable shelves: Allow flexible adaptation to items of varying heights.
- Pull-out wire baskets: Convenient for accessing deep areas.
- Drawers with dividers: Improve organization for smaller kitchen utensils.
- Pot and lid holders: Prevent clutter caused by loose stacking.
- Rolling cart systems: Enable easy access to larger and heavier items.
It is important to match the exact dimensions of the internal fittings to the interior measurements of the tall cabinets. Many IKEA fittings are compatible, but special attention should be paid to measurements when using third-party products.
As a general rule, make the most of the cabinet depth and height by using pull-outs that can be fully extended. This improves visibility and usability. A clear recommendation is not to simply stack all utensils, but to organize them using divider systems or boxes.

- Pots and pans, some of which are quite heavy
- Storage containers, e.g. for flour, sugar, pasta
- Small kitchen appliances like mixer attachments
- Spices and cooking utensils in smaller quantities
Would you recommend rolling carts or pull-out wire baskets for pots? Or is that not advisable depending on the weight of the pots?
Also: What about modular inserts that can potentially be customized? Are there established solutions that can be particularly well combined with the METOD kitchen system?
