Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of how to best organize the storage space in my IKEA Metod tall cabinets. Specifically, I am interested in tips and strategies for not only maximizing the available space but also improving visibility, so that frequently used kitchen utensils are easily accessible while rarely used items are neatly stored away. Which organizing tools (e.g., inserts, baskets, rails) are particularly effective for this? And how can one prevent tall cabinets from quickly looking cluttered when storing items of varying sizes?

I look forward to your practical experiences and recommendations!

Hello mateo4,

you’ve brought up a great topic. Optimizing storage space in Metod tall cabinets is indeed very important, especially if you want to avoid wasting too much space.

I generally recommend measuring the interior carefully first and then working with modular inserts. Take a look at adjustable shelves, which allow you to customize the compartments to fit your containers. Additionally, pull-out drawer inserts and metal or plastic baskets are excellent, as they provide better access and improved organization.

It’s crucial to store frequently used items at eye level or within easy reach, while things you use less often should be stored higher up or lower down.

You can also use dividers to keep things orderly and prevent small items from mixing together. Another tip is to use transparent storage boxes, which make it easier to find things quickly.

If you have specific dimensions or use cases, feel free to share them—then I can provide even more targeted advice.

Hello mateo4,

To optimize storage space in IKEA Metod tall cabinets, I recommend a systematic approach:
- Make an inventory of the items to be stored, including their dimensions.
- Organize them by frequency of use and size.
- Use adjustable shelves to set the shelf height precisely.
- Use drawer inserts (e.g., cutlery trays, spice holders) and pull-out baskets to improve accessibility.
- Choose clip-in systems where accessories can be easily repositioned.

To avoid clutter, I also suggest defining clear categories and sticking to them consistently. This helps prevent a “mixed bag” of different items that can increase disorder.

Note: The load capacity of shelves and drawers must be observed, especially for heavier items.

Use pull-out drawers for deep tall cabinets. This allows you to access all items without stacking or digging. Baskets and dividers help to keep things organized. Adjustable shelves customize the storage space.

Thanks for this tip! I’m curious if you could recommend specific drawer inserts that fit well with Metod tall cabinets and are easy to install? I’d prefer not to do much DIY, but rather rely on proven systems.

Also, I wonder how you deal with the challenge of storing tall bottles or pots in the cabinets without wasting space.

I’ve personally had good experience with IKEA’s VARIERA series – they offer various inserts that are compatible and easy to integrate. Especially the shallow cutlery and accessory trays fit well in the Metod drawers.

How do you handle the challenge of storing tall bottles or pots in the cabinets?

For tall items, I recommend leaving one compartment “free” by positioning the shelves so there is enough height. Another option is pull-out baskets with a fold-down function or telescopic rails, which allow bottles to stand securely while still being easily accessible.

Tip: Sometimes it makes sense to set up a pot compartment in the tall cabinet with adjustable walls to keep stacking stable.
