maukeHello everyone, I am currently planning my kitchen with Ikea Metod tall cabinets and want to make the most efficient use of storage space. I am wondering how to best use interior organizers to keep both small utensils and larger kitchen tools neat and easily accessible. Does anyone have practical tips for combining different types of organizers, such as metal or wire baskets, drawer dividers, or pull-outs? How do you avoid wasting storage space, especially in tall cabinets? Are there any recommendations on how to make storage flexible to adapt to changing needs? I would greatly appreciate your experiences and suggestions.
Hello mauke, I’m very familiar with this issue – especially with large tall cabinets or pantry units, it’s easy to lose track. I use pull-out drawers of different heights in my Metod tall cabinets and add adjustable dividers inside the drawers; this saves space and keeps things organized. What’s important to me are flexible components that can be removed or reconfigured if usage needs change. This way, you avoid wasting storage space because not everything is permanently fixed. Wire baskets work great for heavy items; I sort smaller utensils in boxes that I then arrange inside the pull-outs. Looking forward to hearing how it goes for you!
Thanks in advance for your answers! @Joe52, you mentioned that adjustable partition walls are very helpful – could you tell us more about that? Are these products from Ikea itself or accessories from other manufacturers? How exactly do you use the partition walls to optimize storage space? Are there specific models you would recommend? My concern is that if the interior layout is too inflexible, I might end up with less usability.
Hello mauke, I completely understand that you want to make the most of the storage space in Metod tall cabinets. It is important to use all levels of the cabinet effectively—especially the upper area, which is often used just as a storage surface. I recommend combining drawers with multiple tiers, for example, basic drawers with separately organized boxes or small containers inside. Also, corner pull-outs are a useful addition if the cabinet is very wide.
One more tip: using transparent storage solutions helps you keep an overview. You might also consider dividing the interior height of each tier with small shelves to avoid large unused gaps that often remain empty. If you like, I can also share some specific examples from my kitchen cabinet.
