JukenHello everyone, I have a KALLAX shelf unit in the hallway that unfortunately makes an unpleasant rattling noise when the doors are slammed shut. The doors are made of glass and hang somewhat loosely in the frame, which seems to amplify the sound. My question is how I can effectively prevent this rattling without making major modifications or completely rebuilding the shelf? Are there any specially designed dampers, cushions, or setup tips that could help here? I would appreciate practical and straightforward solutions!
Good morning! When doors rattle, it is often due to insufficient clearance or a lack of cushioning between the door and the frame. I recommend the following approach:
1. Check if the doors are properly aligned. If they hang crookedly, they will not close smoothly.
2. Then, apply silicone or foam rubber bumpers at the contact points.
3. For glass, you can also use special glass door dampers that are clamped between the glass and the frame.
Note: The bumpers should not be too thick, otherwise the doors may not close properly. It may also be possible to fine-tune or add to the closing mechanism, if one is installed.
If you don’t want to make modifications, silicone bumpers are usually the best solution.

Wow, great topic! 🙂 I had the same issue and simply applied rubber seals from the hardware store around the door frames. It was very effective and really inexpensive! My KALLAX is completely silent now, and I’m happy about it every time! Feel free to ask if you need tips on how to install them; I’m happy to help!

try using self-adhesive silicone bumpers on the door framesThat’s possible, but these bumpers must not interfere with the actual locking mechanism, otherwise the system won’t work properly. Additionally, the rattling is more likely caused by loose hinges or misaligned doors – which is usually the more common issue. You should first check if the doors are properly secured with the hinges and, if necessary, tighten or adjust them.
I like the image of the KALLAX happily rattling away without causing stressful daydreams... 😄 But seriously: a bit of sealing never hurts and brings calm. My advice: use window or door seals made of soft material that can be easily clipped on – they dampen noise very well and are simple to remove if needed. Just give it a try and say goodbye to the rattling noise. Good luck!
