Hello everyone,

I’ve attached a section of the garage including the workshop area.

2D floor plan with dimensions and room layout of an interior space

For lighting, the original plan was to use the seven large yellow rectangles shown. These were intended to be LED panels, possibly 40x40cm (16x16 inches), but I hadn’t finalized the size yet.
I have now marked the garage door and the attic hatch in orange. The number 20 (20cm / 8 inches) next to the garage door indicates that when the door is open, it only extends to the first orange line, and 20cm (8 inches) further is the profile frame of the guide rails. The motor is located directly beneath the central panel. That means this middle light doesn’t really make sense anymore. I’m wondering whether to simply remove it and keep the rest as planned, or if I should rethink the entire layout.
For example, I’ve noticed that in the workshop area where the workbench is supposed to go (top left on the plan in front of the window), I might need more light.

The room could also be used for a birthday party in winter, so the lighting shouldn’t be just a bit of dim, insufficient light.

How have you solved this?

I would probably install two LED tubes near the ceiling on both the left and right walls according to the floor plan, and possibly add a desk lamp in the workshop area for close-up lighting.

This should provide better illumination for a low garage than ceiling panels and be more than sufficient overall – after all, it’s a garage, not an operating room.

For any celebrations, I’d recommend placing an electrical outlet next to each LED tube so you can plug in string lights, which I find much more suitable for a (birthday) party. A few candles on the tables would complete the atmosphere perfectly ;-)

Hm. Well, it’s not that low – 2.75 meters (9 feet).

I prefer having too much light and dimming it down. The other way around is difficult.

I also want to be able to work on the motorcycle or vacuum the car, or something like that.

Without labeling LED as a buzzword... I wouldn’t use LEDs at all... *clears throat*
They don’t stay on continuously, they’re not the best... why not just use halogen lights? 🙂
It’s not like I don’t have any LEDs, but for work lighting, halogen is simply more comfortable.

So, my garage is about 7 x 6 meters (23 x 20 feet), and I installed six double LED tube lights there. It is very bright. I would recommend that.

How did you arrange them?
Did you leave out the area where the garage door is when it’s open?
