ᐅ LED Spotlights in the Bathroom – Where and How Many?

Hello everyone!

I have been working on planning the LED spotlights in the bathroom of our new build for hours now. I originally thought that 5 spots would be enough, arranged symmetrically. But then the distances between some spots are quite large (140cm (55 inches) and 158cm (62 inches)). I hope you can see all the necessary information on my sketch. Sorry for the poor quality.
Do you have any ideas on how to do it better or differently? Should I just add 2 more spots?

We completely removed the washbasin from the circuit because it will have separate lighting anyway.
We also made the spotlights dimmable so that you can still see something while bathing, but the atmosphere is more relaxing.
I would consider whether LED lighting is actually appropriate or if halogen might be a better choice.

Best regards in short

More recessed lights with lower wattage each provide a pleasant, even, and glare-free illumination. In the shower, I installed two because I personally didn’t like the large shadows cast by the 360 mm (14 inch) Raindance showerhead. Medicine cabinets also work well for us as a kind of "night light"; we have already replaced the switches with automatic ones. Finally, for recessed lighting, you can use a combination of dimmer and automatic switch—there are many options available, including night light functions and adjustable turn-on brightness. Personally, I prefer this over wall and niche lighting. We have 10 recessed lights in a similar floor area.

My two cents on LED versus halogen: an important consideration is the heat generated by the fixtures, especially if a vapor barrier is present. LEDs tend to be less critical in this regard. (Nonetheless, I measured temperatures of around 90 degrees Celsius (194°F) on a 6W LED fixture using an infrared thermometer; the fixture was hanging freely on the cable, turned on for one hour.)

I’m bringing this old thread back up because we’re currently facing a similar decision.

Especially regarding the LED ceiling spotlight in the shower. The electrician installed it quite deep inside the shower (or rather, the power cable for it).
We are getting a somewhat larger "rain" showerhead.
At the moment, this showerhead would hang directly below the spotlight, casting a shadow exactly where a person would stand later. I find that a bit pointless. Or could it actually be better not to be illuminated “directly” in that spot? What are your experiences with this?

It depends on the overall design and lighting of the shower. If there is a glass wall, then I don’t see any problem. If it’s a recessed niche, it will be dark.

So, the electrical cables are now roughly laid out. The shower could still be reasonably reached from the spotlight at the bottom right. However, it would probably be better to move the spotlight directly out of the shower area, so it doesn't cast unnecessary shadows over the showerhead...

Yes, in this case I would move the spotlight closer to the shower entrance.
