Hello everyone,

We are currently in the decision-making phase for the appliances for our future Schüller country-style kitchen, and we are still quite undecided, especially on this point.

Range hood:
Visually, a retro-style range hood would probably fit best. However, these are usually quite expensive (for example, from Smeg). At the moment, we have planned for an AEG X68163BV10. However, this does not seem to be the best option in this price range. Does anyone have suggestions?

Refrigerator:
For aesthetic reasons, we chose the Geronje ONRK193C. Is it any good? (It costs around 1,100 EUR — we will not buy this together with the kitchen.)

Oven:
For the oven, it was important to us that it has as little stainless steel as possible (we don’t like that) and includes a pyrolytic self-cleaning function. We narrowed it down to three models (Siemens, Bosch, and Neff). Among these, the following Siemens model was the favorite regarding price/performance: Siemens iQ700 HB678GBS6.

Cooktop (Induction):
We are still uncertain here. Currently, the AEG HK6542H1FB cooktop is planned. However, this also doesn’t seem to be the best choice for the price. Perhaps you have better suggestions? But please nothing much more expensive.

Dishwasher:
For the dishwasher, a Neff GX665 (S52P65X0EU) was recommended to us. However, I have read online that models with zeolite technology are also popular right now. With Siemens/Bosch, there are many reports of problems (error code "E31") online... So we are also quite unsure here.

We are really looking forward to your help and tips.

Thank you very much!

That’s right, I looked in the wrong place... thanks for the correction.

First of all, thank you very much for the many replies in such a short time!

When choosing the oven, we are now sure it will be one of these three models, depending on the current price/performance ratio during the kitchen consultation...
Siemens iQ700 HB678GBS6
Bosch Series 8 HBG676EB6
Bosch Series 8 HBG675BB1 (slightly cheaper than the other Bosch, without touch controls & Wi-Fi)

Because there are so many products on the market, it really is incredibly difficult, I would like to narrow it down to 1-2 appliances for each area (oven, extractor hood, cooktop & dishwasher) and then decide onsite based on price and usability.

For the extractor hood, for aesthetic reasons, we would prefer a design like the one shown in the photo. These angled hoods that look like a TV don’t really suit our planned country-style kitchen. However, our question is what technology is typically used for this type of solution and whether these are good or rather inferior – or whether it might actually be better to choose one of those angled designs?

Cooktop
The “Twisted Pad” version from Neff already makes a good impression in the videos. Our last kitchen purchase was many years ago and at that time Neff wasn’t really in the same league as Bosch & Siemens. Even though they are now all part of the BSH group, can Neff be considered on the same level as Bosch & Siemens?

What is important to us: 80cm (32 inches) wide and a protective frame around the cooktop.

Dishwasher
I don’t currently see the zeolite technology as a buying argument; apparently it is still not 100% mature? At least the different opinions suggest that.
What was completely new to me is that there apparently are also dishwashers with so-called “fleet storage technology.” Does anyone know this? It seems that a residual amount of rinse water is stored in a water reservoir and reused in the next wash cycle. At first, this sounds unhygienic and probably only saves a few euros per year. Manufacturers probably use this to achieve their extremely efficient ratings? Do you know how to identify appliances that have this feature?

Our current plan includes a Neff dishwasher (S52P65X0EU). What do you think about it? Similar question as above... would you prefer Bosch / Siemens? If so, which model? The price should not exceed a similar level by more than about 100/150 EUR per appliance (also for the other appliance groups).

Thanks to all!

My advice is still to get advice at a kitchen showroom. I paid €805 (about $870) for the Miele dishwasher and €986 (about $1,070) for the Liebherr refrigerator there. For that price, I would otherwise get at best Bosch or Siemens, and it’s not true that there’s no difference in price. A few years ago, we bought an oven from Siemens, which was the second most expensive model available. Because of the pyrolytic cleaning, I constantly had a technician over, and it never really worked properly. I won’t have something like that in my house again. We also bought a steam oven from Miele. After comparing it with a similar model from Neff (which cost half as much), it was clear to me that the Miele was the only option. I should add that my wife and I really enjoy cooking. For us, it makes more sense to save money on the car than on the kitchen.

Regarding the range hood, you need to consider what you will be doing in the kitchen while it is running. We planned an open kitchen. It can happen that one person is watching the news on TV while another is busy in the kitchen. Most hoods are so noisy that you can practically forget about it. Have the hoods demonstrated to you and then decide. In our case, only Miele and Gutmann remained in the running. I’m not trying to advertise any brand, but considering how long we have had our Miele vacuum cleaner and the wear we experienced with previous ones, I would say that we had been trying to save money in the wrong area, and the Miele was not much more expensive.

Neff and Siemens/Bosch can definitely be mentioned in the same breath. In fact, I would even prefer Neff in this case, as in my opinion they offer a better user interface and often some nice detailed solutions. In terms of quality, they are in the same league.

I never said there is no difference between Miele and the BSH group, but it varies from appliance to appliance. Generally, Miele or Liebherr come with a 30-50% price premium. For my personal taste, they are not that much better to justify this price increase, but that is just my opinion. However, when it comes to steam ovens, they are indeed the industry leaders. For dishwashers, though, I would argue that most people don’t notice a difference. Appliances can always break down. In my in-laws’ case, the (admittedly very good) Miele technician was a regular visitor because the steam oven kept failing and even leaked once.

Is there now a pyrolytic oven combined with Slide n' Hide in one unit? Two years ago, this was a dealbreaker since the two features couldn’t be combined.

Yes, it exists. For example, the Neff BVT 5664N.
