Hello,
I am currently considering which built-in appliances should be planned for the new kitchen. I would like to use an oven, microwave, and steam oven.
The quickest solution would be three separate built-in appliances. However, there are also combined options available, naturally at a wide range of prices. So, what makes the most sense as individual appliance(s):

- Oven, microwave, and steam oven (3 appliances)
- Oven, microwave/steam oven (2 appliances)
- Oven/steam oven and microwave (2 appliances)
- Oven/microwave and steam oven (2 appliances)
- Oven/microwave/steam oven (1 appliance)

One appliance would probably be the space-saving and cost-effective option. However, you would need to carefully consider which food to heat and in which order inside the device. Space is not an issue. I was thinking about appliances from BSH (Bosch, Siemens, Constructa, etc.).

I only used the microwave as a small boy to make eggs explode.
At work, it still makes sense since you can't really cook there.
At home, I haven't missed it so far.
I am very interested in ovens with steam cooking function, although I haven't used one yet. Some of them can even clean themselves, right?

No matter what you buy, I strongly advise against "self-cleaning" coatings (catalytic).
The self-cleaning is a joke, but you also can’t clean it by hand because the coating is rough and gets damaged even by the slightest rubbing. A technician from Siemens customer service even said that it doesn’t work and many customers complain that their ovens look like 10-year-old appliances after only six months. Either go for a regular coating and clean it yourself or choose pyrolytic cleaning (however, DGB doesn’t offer this).

Ah, I first read that you were advising against pyrolytic cleaning. It’s amazing what a few small, inconspicuous letters can change.

I grew up with Miele, so I’ll go with a Miele combination unit too. Ideally, I would like a combi-steam oven and a built-in microwave. Unfortunately, it seems that Siemens only offers ovens with microwave and pyrolytic cleaning combined. For the "main oven," I don’t want to go without pyrolytic cleaning, so I’m left with a standard oven and a small microwave, about 40cm (16 inches) wide, placed on a shelf inside one of the tall cabinets. That should be enough to warm up grain-filled heating pads and is also best for the budget.

I don’t believe there are steam ovens with pyrolytic cleaning. That would probably be the holy grail of tightness for steam and durability for 500°C (932°F). I think there are cleaning programs that soak dirt, possibly with chemical support as well, but I’m not sure about that.

Steam cooking is not what you might expect. If you also want to prepare fillets, I would recommend looking for a device that supports sous vide. I have one from AEG with a separate water tank, meaning an external steam generator. At least with AEG, the built-in models tend to have a rack corrosion problem.

To those who own 2 combination appliances: Which manufacturer and model did you choose, and why?

I can easily imagine both options.

Siemens = Bosch = Neff

I would choose between them based on usability.

We went with Bosch. Neff was immediately ruled out for us, and the control dial on Siemens felt too loose.

Miele would probably be better, especially for steam, but it wasn’t worth twice the price to us.

The oven with a fully integrated steam cooker is easy to clean, as food does not really burn onto the surfaces. For roasts that benefit from occasional steaming, there are steam-assisted ovens with steam support and pyrolytic self-cleaning (this works very well with our Siemens).
