Hello everyone, I recently bought a KALLAX shelf unit from IKEA and unfortunately noticed that some of the boards were slightly chipped when unpacking and assembling. There are small cracks and splinters, especially along the edges, even though I was very careful during assembly. My question is: what has been your experience with how IKEA handles complaints in such cases? Do they simply replace the boards, or is it necessary to deal with extensive proof and lengthy procedures? What tips do you have if I want to claim the damage? Thanks in advance for any help!
A brief update and additional tips: If you contact IKEA, it is often possible to get spare parts, so you don’t have to replace the entire shelving unit. This saves time and effort.
If the process becomes complicated, it can sometimes help to specifically refer to warranty rights (two years from the date of purchase).
In addition, picking up items at the IKEA store is usually faster than returning them by mail.

I would recommend asking directly during your complaint conversation how long the replacement delivery will take. At IKEA, the speed can vary. Sometimes it’s worth checking the selection of spare parts on site, as there are often variations in inventory.
Good luck with that!

A brief update from my side: I called IKEA customer service yesterday, and the representative was very friendly and immediately took note of the case.
She said I could either receive the entire board or just the replacement part, depending on what I prefer. The process is straightforward; the only requirement is to provide the receipt.
I think that’s fair. Let’s see how fast it will be, but I’m optimistic. Thanks again to everyone!
