MuixneoI am planning to assemble an IKEA Besta sideboard soon but have very limited time and want to make the assembly process as efficient as possible. From your experience, which tools are absolutely essential when assembling a Besta unit under time pressure? I’m especially interested in which hand tools or possibly power tools can significantly speed up the work without compromising quality or stability. Besides the usual Allen wrench included in the package, are there any other tools that help make the process sturdy and quick? Any recommendations, including useful accessories or small tips, would be greatly appreciated.
Hello, to make the process more efficient, the supplied Allen wrench alone is often not enough. Especially when working under time pressure, I recommend using a cordless drill with adjustable torque – this makes screwing much faster and helps prevent over-tightening. The best option is hex key bits that match the IKEA screws. Additionally, a small Phillips screwdriver is useful because some connection points require it. Also, have a rubber mallet or soft mallet on hand to gently fit parts together if they don’t align smoothly. The most important thing is good preparation: sorting parts, checking screws, and having tools ready.

You don’t waste time searching for or noticing parts too late. I have also found it helpful to divide the work into steps with clear breaks to avoid losing focus. In terms of tools, I recommend a fine pair of tweezers or small pliers for hard-to-reach dowels or nails. A tape measure also comes in handy when you need to quickly check that everything fits.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions. I am specifically wondering: Is it worth using a small, angle-adjustable cordless drill/driver, or is a simple cordless drill/driver with a fixed angle sufficient? The shelf is made of rather thin panels, and the screws are mostly flat-head screws with an internal hex drive. Could a drill/driver that is too powerful or large easily damage the materials? Or are there any tips for the proper handling?

With IKEA Besta, the drill holes are often located in recesses, where an ergonomic, slightly smaller drill is easier to handle and helps prevent damage. Important: set the torque low and start slowly. For flat-head screws, using a precisely fitting bit is crucial to avoid damaging the wood.
