Hello everyone, I recently got a Kallax shelf from Ikea, which I fitted with doors. However, adjusting the doors has been quite challenging: the doors don’t close flush, some hang slightly crooked, and when I try to adjust the hinges, it feels like the fine-tuning options have very little effect. Is there a detailed guide or proven tips on how to optimally adjust the Kallax doors? I’m especially interested in the fine adjustment, so the doors fit neatly, open easily, and don’t rub against each other or the shelf. Thanks in advance for your help!

I can totally relate – it’s often frustrating when the doors don’t behave the way you want. Try closing the doors repeatedly in between, not just turning the screws; that helps me better understand how the adjustment works. And don’t worry, when it comes to fine-tuning, less is often more. I was a bit concerned a few times about damaging the screws, but Ikea hinges are actually quite sturdy. 🙂 Feel free to keep us updated on how it goes!

For adjusting the Kallax doors, I recommend the following procedure: First, remove the doors roughly, then fully close and tighten the hinges. Next, remount the doors and slightly turn the horizontal screw left or right to even out gaps. After that, perform the height adjustment using the upper screw to achieve a uniform appearance. Finally, set the distance so that the doors sit evenly with the front of the shelf. Patience is key here. If the doors are sagging, also check the screws at the back panel of the shelf.

The screw at the back of the hinge adjusts the depth (in/out), the one at the front controls the horizontal position, and the top screw adjusts the height.

Exactly! 🙂 I also find it helpful to open the door slightly when adjusting the horizontal position, as this makes it easier to turn the screw without using too much force. A small tip: if you notice the door is already rubbing against the frame edge, first adjust the depth screw to move the door slightly outward before changing the height—this helps prevent the door from fitting too tightly. Good luck!
