Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an Ikea Platsa wardrobe system and am now considering whether and how to retrofit it with soft-close functionality. My question is: Is there an official or at least proven guide on how to add soft-close fittings to Ikea Platsa, specifically for the drawers and doors? I want to avoid just buying something randomly and hoping it fits, since the dimensions are somewhat unique and Ikea usually uses their own fittings.

Additionally, it would be helpful to know if special adapters or replacement parts are needed for this, or if standard soft-close mechanisms are compatible. Any experience with installation or problems encountered during retrofitting would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

There is no official Ikea guide for soft-close fittings on Platsa. Many users use standard soft-close dampers for drawers but need to adjust the screw holes beforehand. It is important to check the measurements carefully, as the parts do not always fit perfectly without modification.

Hey, great question! 😊 I upgraded my Platsa with soft-close a while ago, and it worked really well! You don’t need any special Ikea instructions—just buy standard soft-close dampers and adjust them patiently. It’s important to choose the correct models for doors and drawers, as they are mounted differently. Go for it – this upgrade adds a whole new level of quality to your home!

Can this statement be definitively confirmed? Although Ikea provides limited official information about the Platsa system, soft-close fittings are officially not included as standard for Platsa.

This is only partly correct: The dimensions and mounting points for Platsa sometimes differ from typical standards, which can cause fitting issues with some aftermarket products.

Therefore, I would add that retrofitting is possible, but either requires custom work or a system specifically compatible with Platsa. Additionally, the question of durability and performance without original Ikea parts has not been addressed in the discussion – I would like to hear more experiences on this.

For retrofitting soft-close mechanisms on Ikea Platsa units, the following approach is recommended:
- Before purchasing the dampers, carefully measure the existing screw positions and dimensions to avoid additional modifications later.
- Choose suitable soft-close mechanisms specifically designed for drawers and doors, preferably models with adjustable mounting angles.
- Some users report simple click-in systems, while others mention screw fastenings that require modifications.
- As an extra tip: after installation, check the screws and adjust the dampers if necessary, since Ikea doors sometimes require additional adjustments due to their material.

There is no official Ikea guide available, but many DIY forums and users have shared practical advice.

I have retrofitted soft-close mechanisms on my Platsa as well. Important: Use soft-close dampers with a wide mounting profile to fit the Platsa dimensions. Measure before purchasing, then install – it worked for me without major modifications.
