Hello everyone,

I have some IKEA Besta drawers at home, and I’ve noticed that they can sometimes be quite hard to open and close. Especially when they are loaded with heavier items, the resistance feels quite high.

Is there any trick or proven method to make the Besta drawers easier to operate without having to replace the entire slide or mechanism? I would like to know if there is a specific solution for the Besta systems that improves the movement or reduces friction.

Thanks in advance for your tips!

I had the exact same problem with my Besta drawers for a long time and found it quite frustrating. What finally helped me was actually removing the drawers completely and giving them a thorough cleaning, followed by applying a silicone-based spray, just as has already been suggested here.

It also takes a bit of patience when putting them back in, because the runners need to fit perfectly. I understand how annoying it is when something that should be simple to use ends up being such a hassle.

However, it’s worth approaching the issue systematically and not immediately replacing the entire drawer. Sometimes the solution seems incredibly simple once you’ve found it.

If drawers feel stiff, it is usually due to insufficient lubrication or incorrect adjustment.

I would like to emphasize this again and add to it. The interplay between adjustment and lubrication is especially important.

It is also crucial to ensure even pressure during assembly: the mounting screws for the drawer slides should not be too loose, as this prevents the runners from sliding smoothly on the rails.

A good tip is to align the drawer slides on small plastic strips or soft pads to compensate for any unevenness in the cabinet structure.

Additionally, I recommend not overloading heavily used drawers. This increases stress on the sliding mechanism and worsens the problem.
