Good morning everyone, some time ago I purchased an Ikea Pax system with several drawers. However, I have the problem that the drawers tend to stick or become difficult to open over time. I suspect this might be due to incorrect adjustment or possibly the installation. How exactly can one prevent the Ikea Pax drawers from sticking? Are there any proven tips or technical details to keep in mind to ensure the drawers remain reliable and easy to operate? I look forward to practical advice and experiences!

Sometimes the plastic guides hidden inside are the culprits; they can be well maintained with a little silicone spray. That’s an interesting point, thank you! In my case, there are indeed these white plastic components in the guides. Is there a special procedure for lubricating them, or should only the rails be treated? Also, I have heard that too much grease or spray can attract dust – what is the best approach to avoid making the situation worse?

Is there a specific procedure for lubricating, or should you only treat the rails? I always spray the rails first and then lightly apply some to the plastic guides – this ensures smooth sliding. It’s important to fully open and close the drawer a few times after spraying so the lubricant spreads evenly. And yes, using it sparingly is essential; otherwise, it becomes a major dust magnet.

Also, I heard that too much grease or spray attracts dust – what is the best way to avoid making the situation worse? That is correct. Greasy or oily residues attract dust and can worsen the sticking of drawers. Therefore, silicone-based sprays with a dry effect are preferable. Before application, the guide should be thoroughly cleaned with a lint-free cloth. Use as little product as possible to create a thin, even film.
Thank you very much for the many helpful responses! Tonight, I will carefully inspect the drawers, measure and clean the runners. I will also lightly treat the plastic guides and rails with a suitable silicone-based spray. If I notice anything else, I will get back to you. If anyone has tips on adjusting the drawer fronts and how to correct them best, I would appreciate it – the fronts do not all seem to be perfectly aligned for me.
