Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to assemble a Pax wardrobe from IKEA in my apartment. My question is: Is it possible to build and install the Pax wardrobe entirely on your own, without outside help or additional tools? Or does that make the process more difficult? I am somewhat handy, but with so many parts and the size of the wardrobe, it seems quite complex. So, what are your experiences – does it make sense to tackle the project alone, or is it better to arrange for help? I’m looking forward to your opinions and tips!

Hi Neo67,

basically, you can probably assemble the PAX wardrobe by yourself, especially if you’re not completely new to furniture assembly. The important thing is to take your time and follow the steps carefully. Some parts can be bulky and heavy – this is where having a second person to hold or pass parts really helps. You only need basic tools like a screwdriver and maybe a hammer, but IKEA usually includes quite a few tools.

My advice: if you don’t want someone watching you the whole time, maybe get help just for the heavy or awkward pieces, and you can handle the rest comfortably over the course of the day. That way, you avoid stress and don’t end up with sore fingers. 😊

PAX alone? Yes, possible.

But: Be prepared to invest patience and time.

Heavier parts should be carried by two people to avoid a high risk of injury.

Tools: Screwdrivers, Phillips and flathead, a cordless drill can make the work easier.

Definitely faster with at least one helper.

It’s interesting how everyone immediately insists on having a “second person.” Why is that?

If you apply some thought and planning, it’s just as much a logistical challenge as a puzzle.

Just because IKEA furniture looks big and heavy doesn’t automatically mean you have to fail if you work alone. You shouldn’t approach the problem from a physical strength perspective, but rather from the system itself.

Make it easier for yourself: take it step by step, prepare well, create space, and sort all the parts. Then you can manage it alone without being influenced by conventional ideas that it can’t be done solo.

Hey Neo67!

I totally understand how it can feel at first – huge, overwhelming, almost intimidating. But keep your spirits up! The PAX wardrobe is a really cool project, and yes, it’s definitely doable on your own if you stay organized!

What I really recommend:
- Allow plenty of time, don’t rush
- Work on a large, clean surface so nothing gets lost
- Keep the instructions handy and follow them step by step

I didn’t have a helper, but I took breaks along the way. It feels really great when you see the whole thing standing on its own 😄

You’ve got this!

I agree!

And a small tip from my own experience:

- It’s best to use a cordless drill if you have one. It saves you so much time and frustration!
- Carefully stand the large side panels upright, as even slight pressure can damage the edges
- And don’t forget to look away from the instructions now and then and just take a deep breath 😉

Overall: anyone who stays calm and patient can definitely handle assembling the PAX alone!
