Hello everyone, I’m planning to assemble my IKEA Pax wardrobe soon and wanted to ask in advance which tools are essential to complete the assembly as efficiently and smoothly as possible. It would be great if you could share from personal experience or detailed knowledge which screwdrivers are needed (Phillips, flathead, Torx?), whether a cordless drill is absolutely necessary, if a hammer or perhaps an Allen key is very helpful, and if there are any other tools that make the build significantly easier. I’m especially interested in hearing if there are tools not originally recommended but that still offer major advantages. Thanks for your support!

For assembling the Pax system, a Phillips screwdriver (PH2) is usually essential, as many screws use this type of head. Using a good cordless drill greatly simplifies the work and saves time, especially with the numerous fastening points. The hammer is generally only useful for gently tapping in wall plugs. Hex keys are often included but are usually only needed occasionally for specific connections. I personally also recommend having a small utility knife for opening the packaging and possibly a spirit level to ensure everything is perfectly aligned at the end.

The Pax wardrobe primarily uses Phillips screws in the PH2 size. A cordless drill with adjustable torque control is recommended to prevent over-tightening the screws, which can often cause damage with cheaper tools. Torx drivers are generally not necessary, as IKEA does not use Torx fasteners. For hammering nails or dowels, a small hammer made of wood or plastic is sufficient to avoid surface damage. A flathead screwdriver can be useful but is not essential. Finally, I recommend initially tightening all screws by hand before fully securing them.

A Phillips screwdriver, cordless drill, hammer, and Allen key are sufficient. Especially important: a cordless drill with torque control. Everything else is just convenience.

Additional information: Some Pax models include specialized accessories, such as small plastic wedges for stabilization. The necessary tools are provided, but they should not be overlooked. A cordless drill is convenient but not essential if you are patient. A screwdriver with a sufficiently long shaft is important to reach deeper parts.

Use the hammer only for anchors. A cordless drill saves a lot of work. The rest, like a Phillips screwdriver, is standard. Torx is not necessary.
