Today, I came across the Ingatorp table—not directly through Ikea, but because someone was trying to sell a used one via a classified ad. However, I haven’t acquired it yet because the offered piece has quite significant damage on the tabletop. Among other things, there is an area where bubbles seem to have formed in the lacquer (see linked image (yes, you can view it without a Dropbox account)).
The frame is solid wood, but the tabletop is particleboard, coated with plastic and lacquered. After seeing the damage described above, I’m wondering—did someone put hot pots directly on it, and did a child also repeatedly scratch the table with cutlery over the years? Or is this a table that cannot be used without a tablecloth without getting damaged? I actually like it so much that I would like to buy a new one. I would really appreciate any experiences or insights!

Hello kathamue,
I don’t have the table yet, but maybe I can join in with my question here, since whoever can answer your question can probably answer mine as well:
How long is the distance between the table legs along the length side? I want to buy chairs elsewhere and wonder how wide they can be at most to still fit side by side under the table.
It would be really great if someone could tell me!
Thank you very much

IKEA-Experte12 Jan 2017 11:01Hello, in the picture the table appears to have been used as a writing and work desk.
Top / additional top: chipboard, ABS plastic, acrylic paint
The ABS plastic likely refers only to an edge banding.
The damage on the table seems to have been caused by scratches / small holes in the paint and moisture penetration.
