Hello everyone, I would like to start a practical discussion: How can I prevent damage when transporting furniture from IKEA’s Malm range?

Specifically, I am interested in the best ways to protect the relatively sensitive surfaces and edges when the furniture is transported in moving boxes or by other means.

It would also be helpful to learn how to store disassembled Malm furniture properly to avoid unexpected problems from damaged parts during reassembly.

I look forward to precise tips and experiences, including recommendations for special packing materials or techniques.

To prevent damage during the transport of Malm furniture, I recommend first wrapping all parts with sandpaper protection film or bubble wrap.

The delicate surfaces are often only melamine-coated and scratch easily. Additionally, all edges should be covered with edge protectors, which are commonly available.

When storing, sturdy boxes are preferred, and heavy items should be avoided from being placed directly on the furniture parts.

Furthermore, screws, dowels, and small parts should be stored separately in labeled bags to facilitate assembly later.

An important point is that furniture should always be stacked as flat as possible and without pressure.

When removing drawers, it is advisable to secure and cushion them separately, as they can easily get scratched otherwise.

Additionally, during transport, it is essential to ensure stable fixation by securing the furniture parts in a way that prevents them from shifting.

Always completely empty Malm dressers and cushion individual parts well; this offers the best protection.

Cover the furniture with blankets during transport. This prevents scratches caused by direct contact with other items.

Hey, I think this topic is really important! I transported my Malm dresser last year and was lucky to have no damage because I wrapped each panel with bubble wrap and kept all the screws neatly stored in zip-lock bags!

Especially the small edges – you really need to be careful there, otherwise you can be quickly disappointed. So, take your time when packing, it definitely pays off!!! 🙂
