Hello,
I have a 211cm (83 inches) tall cabinet with a side panel on one side. Strangely, the side panel is about 2cm (0.8 inches) shorter in depth than the cabinet itself. According to the instructions, the side panel should be mounted so that it protrudes 2cm (0.8 inches) towards the front.
What is the purpose of this? Or did I misunderstand something?
PS: I want to install a fridge-freezer combination.
Thanks, Philipp_

Hello Philipp,
The IKEA expert basically already explained it. If you install the top panel flush at the back, it will overhang at the front. But only as long as you haven’t installed a drawer or door.
And that’s actually how it’s supposed to be.
With a drawer or door, both the back and front are flush!

My issue was that the tall cabinet stands in front of a tiled backsplash, meaning it’s not flush all the way along the back anyway. Also, the rail can only be mounted at the top with some tricks since it’s recessed at the back...
