Hello dear experts,
last week we planned, bought, and (almost) assembled a nice Pax wardrobe.
There is only a small problem: the planned drawers do not fit in the designated space. I do not mean that the door hinges and the parts mounted inside the wardrobe require the same holes for the drawers. Both are installed in the wardrobe already (that part "fits").
When I try to place the drawer on the rails inside the wardrobe, I keep getting stuck on the hinges. It seems to me that the hinges might be a bit too "thick."
According to the Pax planner and the IKEA employee who helped with the wardrobe planning—and even handwrote different parts for the drawers on our shopping list—it should actually fit.
These are standard hinges (4 per door, not soft-closing or similar).
Does anyone know this problem and maybe have a tip on what I might be doing wrong?
Thank you very much for your help and best regards

Do you want to install the drawers at the same height as the hinges?
That’s not possible. They need to be installed either above or below them. Also, keep in mind that the hinges on the left door may not be at the same height as those on the right door.

radies_chen2 Mar 2014 09:46The same thing happened to me last week.
This is definitely a serious mistake.
The door hinge must not be installed along the entire height of the drawer.
In fact, no drawers can be installed in the lower section!
Best regards.

Nordkäppchen2 Mar 2014 10:29For cabinets with doors, only this wire basket is possible as the bottom drawer or at the hinges.
Perhaps the new pull-out shelves and shoe racks are also an alternative.

Tip to fit a drawer despite the hinges.
IKEA offered to take back the fully assembled drawers because the drawers rub against the hinges.
Here’s how it can still work:
1. Turn the adjustment screw on the hinge all the way in so the hinge takes up as little space as possible. This shifts the door sideways by about 2mm (0.08 inches).
2. File down the protruding adjustment screw. It can still be turned afterwards.
3. For certain drawers, I had to convert two round drill holes into elongated holes to improve sliding (relieving tension between the guide rails). These are the holes where the drawer hooks into the guide rail—on the hinge-free side, one at the front and one at the back.
This also causes a slight sideways shift of the drawer.
