Hello IKEA fans,
the friendly kitchen planner told us that there always needs to be a cabinet next to the Domjsö inset sink.

Isn’t there maybe a solution for the handy DIYer? We would really like to have the sink centered in front of the window.

Best regards
Ben

Where is the sink supposed to sit?
There is a reason for having cabinets on both the left and right sides...

Heavy-duty bracket and cover panel between sink and dishwasher?

Showing the floor plan and the positioning of the cabinets might be helpful. 😉

The countertop can rest on the sink cabinet, but 18 mm (0.7 inches) is a minimal support surface on its own. The work must be done very precisely, and in case of a warranty claim, it may be argued that it was not installed correctly.

It’s strange that Ikea shows it exactly like this on their official website, even though the kitchen planner says it shouldn’t be done that way.

@Nörgli: That’s a good idea, it might work since I would already need to cover about 10cm (4 inches) of free space next to the dishwasher.

Edit: Here is the kitchen:

Currently, there is a 20cm (8 inches) cabinet between the sink and the dishwasher, but I’m more inclined to remove the 20cm and replace the 40cm (16 inches) cabinet to the right of the sink with a 60cm (24 inches) one. What do you think?

After planning, a cabinet is placed next to the sink, and the sink is centrally located under the window, which was mentioned as the most important point in the first post. The sink is no longer central if the 40cm (16 inches) cabinet is replaced with a 60cm (24 inches) one, which makes sense, though.
There is definitely still room for further optimization.
