Hello everyone,

I have noticed that the hinges on one of the doors of my IKEA Besta cabinet are defective. Because of this, the door no longer closes properly and sometimes gets stuck. My specific question is: How can I replace the hinges of the IKEA Besta system in case of a defect as easily as possible and without professional help?

I would like to know which tools are necessary, whether there are any special replacement parts from IKEA that I need to consider, and if there are any particular tips or procedures that can make the replacement easier. I am also interested in how to properly adjust the hinges after replacement so that the doors close cleanly and securely.

Thanks for all helpful tips and experiences!

Regarding the issue with defective hinges on IKEA Besta cabinets: Replacing them is generally straightforward if you follow the correct sequence and use the right tools.

- First, you only need a Phillips screwdriver and possibly a small flathead screwdriver to detach the door.
- IKEA sells the hinges individually as spare parts. It is important to order the exact same model, as the mounting points may vary.
- Removing the door: Besta doors are usually attached using a clip system. Unlock the hinges by prying the clip and then remove the door.
- Loosen the screws of the defective hinges, attach the new hinge, and reattach the door by clicking it back into place.
- To adjust the door, the hinges have adjustment screws, usually for height, depth, and lateral alignment. Small adjustments here can achieve a perfect fit.

Recommendation: Take photos before starting to assess the door’s condition and check the fit after installation. This helps to avoid mistakes.

I see this as problematic – IKEA tends to introduce small updates over the years that are not immediately obvious. So, if someone just buys any hinge of the Besta type, they could end up with the wrong one.

My advice: to be on the safe side, you should carefully check the serial number or at least the product name as given by IKEA before ordering and request the exact replacement part from customer service. This prevents having to order and return two or three times – especially if you don’t have an IKEA nearby.

Also, it is worth considering whether it’s really worth the effort just for the hinges. Especially with lower-cost furniture, it might be more economical to buy a new cabinet or door.

A few months ago, I replaced my Besta door hinge myself – it worked great!

My most important tip is: Don’t be intimidated by the technical side, it’s really not complicated at all 🙂

I didn’t have any professional tools, just a regular screwdriver. The clips are very easy to release once you know where to apply pressure. After that, you can easily remove the door.

The best part: You can simply adjust the new hinges afterwards until the door fits perfectly – I found that really practical. So just give it a try, there’s nothing to lose and the tips here are really valuable!

Short and to the point:

- Remove the door (press the clip, lift the door off)
- Unscrew the hinges
- Attach the new hinge
- Click the door back in place
- Adjust the hinges (height, depth, lateral position)

Tools: Phillips screwdriver, possibly a small flathead screwdriver. Done.

The exact answer involves the mechanical removal, sourcing of replacement parts, and proper reinstallation including precise readjustment.

Basically, the Besta hinges are clip- or screw-mounted. This means:

- The door is unlocked from a clip and removed
- The old hinge is removed by loosening the screws
- The new hinge is positioned identically and screwed in tightly
- The door is rehung and adjusted using the adjustment screws until it sits flush and level

Important: Three screws are relevant for correct adjustment:

- Height adjustment (usually vertical)
- Depth adjustment (closer to or farther from the door frame)
- Side-to-side adjustment (left/right)

These allow fine tuning until the door closes without wobbling or catching.

If uncertain, YouTube tutorials from IKEA or DIY channels provide step-by-step guidance. But basically: the tools required are minimal, the process is straightforward, and replacement parts are available.
