I am considering getting the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe but am skeptical about how stable this piece of furniture really is in the long term. Many furniture items seem very sturdy during initial assembly but show weaknesses after months or years of use – such as loose joints, warped parts, or other signs of wear.
Therefore, I would like to know if there are users here who have owned the BRIMNES wardrobe for a longer period and can share how the stability has actually held up. How does the furniture perform with frequent use, especially regarding the door hinges, folding doors, or shelves? Are there any assembly pitfalls that could cause problems later on? Experiences related to the weight the wardrobe can support would also be helpful – particularly concerning compartments used regularly.
Thank you in advance for your reviews and feedback!

Assembly was surprisingly straightforward, even though the instructions are typical Ikea style – so it takes some patience but definitely doable.
As for stability: Considering the price, I’m really satisfied. Of course, the wardrobe isn’t made of solid wood, but the joints hold up well, and the doors still fit without major adjustments.
One minor drawback is that the shelves bend a bit under very heavy load, so it’s better to keep the weight moderate. My doors squeak slightly after some time, but nothing serious. In my experience, the BRIMNES performs solidly over the long term – depending on how you use it! 😎

- The construction is based on MDF panels with a melamine coating, which generally means some vulnerability to moisture and heavy weight.
- Screw joints and dowels hold firmly if assembled correctly; be careful not to overtighten screws to avoid damaging the material.
- Door hinges (metal with plastic handles) are sturdy, but occasional maintenance or adjustment is recommended to prevent creaking.
- According to the manufacturer, the load capacity of the shelves is around 15 kg (33 lbs) – exceeding this may cause sagging.
Overall, the wardrobe is designed for normal household use with light to moderate loads. It is not ideal for heavy or continuous loading. Therefore, long-term durability largely depends on proper assembly and usage.

The long-term stability therefore largely depends on proper installation and use. This is an important point. Additionally, I would recommend paying close attention to the correct alignment of the components during assembly. Especially with furniture made from medium-density fiberboard, it is crucial to avoid any stress caused by incorrect installation.
Furthermore, I suggest not placing the cabinet directly on cold or damp floors to prevent swelling damage. Supporting it on felt pads or baseboards can be helpful.
Such measures noticeably extend the lifespan and ensure stability over several years.

Additionally, I recommend not placing the cabinet directly on cold or damp floors to avoid swelling damage. That’s true, and it’s exactly the reason I would sometimes advise against it. Once, the cabinet was placed a bit too close to the window where the humidity was higher, and I actually noticed that the bottom edge had swollen slightly.
So small tips like regular ventilation and keeping some distance from damp areas really work wonders! Otherwise, the BRIMNES remains a reliable companion for the bedroom or office. I still like it. 😊
I can understand the concerns about long-term durability. A cabinet often accompanies you for many years, and it’s frustrating when parts become loose or difficult to close properly.
Reading the experiences shared here helped me set realistic expectations beforehand. I have had the BRIMNES for almost a year now, and so far no problems – but I handle the load carefully.
You can tell that it’s not a heavy-duty professional piece of furniture. For anyone who values durability, I would recommend careful assembly and regular inspections. It might also be worth planning minor adjustments to screws and hinges.
I’m looking forward to more reports from users sharing their long-term experiences!
