Hello everyone, I recently purchased the Ikea Platsa wardrobe and assembled it myself. I have a question about its stability after assembly. I’m particularly interested in whether the construction remains solid and wobble-free over time, especially when placing multiple wardrobes side by side or storing somewhat heavier items. It would also be useful to know if the connecting mechanisms—such as dowels, screws, and especially the metal strips on the back—are sufficient to prevent bending or instability. I have found some user reviews online, but opinions vary widely. Some say the wardrobe is stable and sturdy, while others report issues like creaking or stress on the frame structure. Can you share your personal experience regarding how durable the Ikea Platsa frame really is after assembly? And are there any tips on assembly or placement to maximize stability?

The stability of the Ikea Platsa system largely depends on proper assembly. It is essential that all dowels and screws are fitted precisely to ensure the intended structural integrity. In particular, the metal braces at the back, which serve as reinforcement, must be securely attached as they act as load-bearing components. For multi-part combinations, the connection mechanism between modules provides additional support, assuming the components are aligned correctly and fastened together.

The material—a combination of particleboard with a laminate surface—is functional but less durable compared to solid wood. Therefore, I recommend avoiding storing excessively heavy items and not placing the cabinet directly on uneven surfaces or beams to prevent additional stress. In conclusion, with careful assembly and proper use, the Platsa is sufficiently stable and suitable for normal household use.

So, to address the question: "How stable is the Ikea Platsa really after assembly?" I would like to go into a bit more detail. The Platsa is designed with a modular system, where individual cabinet sections are connected using metal fasteners. The load-bearing capacity largely depends on the following points:

- Precision fitting of the parts: Especially with particleboard, it is crucial that no excessive gaps occur due to incorrect assembly.
- Back panel and connecting strips: The back panel is often underestimated – it significantly contributes to preventing twisting. Without a precisely fixed back panel, the furniture will be wobbly.
- Screws and dowel fixation: These need to be tightened firmly but countersunk without over-tightening.

What often causes problems, especially when the cabinet extends across multiple modules, is alignment. Even small irregularities quickly add up to instability. Here, I recommend using a spirit level during assembly.

Additionally, I believe it is advisable to secure the furniture to the wall. Ikea provides appropriate mounting hardware for this, which should definitely not be overlooked.

Have you secured the cabinet to the wall, or is it standing freely in the room? This makes a big difference in terms of safety and stability.

Thank you, that’s a good point. So far, I haven’t fixed the cabinets to the wall because they are placed in a niche, and I thought the precise fit of the modules would be enough for stability. Your feedback suggests that wall mounting is especially important for Platsa, right? Are there any experiences on how much the stability improves when the furniture is screwed to the wall? And what potential drawbacks are there if this step is skipped, especially regarding long-term use?

Always secure the cabinets to the wall. This prevents tipping and significantly increases load capacity. Without wall anchoring, the cabinet can become unstable under uneven loads and may fall over in the worst case. Connection mechanisms alone are not sufficient.

Exactly. I would like to add that wall mounting is especially recommended in children’s rooms or households with pets. Furthermore:

- Use all the assembly hardware provided by Ikea during construction.
- Screw in the screws slowly to avoid damaging the particleboard panels.
- Adjust the furniture feet so the cabinet does not wobble if the floor is uneven.

If the cabinet stands on uneven surfaces, the corners of the unit can warp and lose stability. This usually becomes noticeable after several months of use when small gaps form between the components.
