Hello everyone, I recently purchased the Ikea Platsa wardrobe and assembled it myself. I have a question about its stability after assembly. I’m particularly interested in whether the construction remains solid and wobble-free over time, especially when placing multiple wardrobes side by side or storing somewhat heavier items. It would also be useful to know if the connecting mechanisms—such as dowels, screws, and especially the metal strips on the back—are sufficient to prevent bending or instability. I have found some user reviews online, but opinions vary widely. Some say the wardrobe is stable and sturdy, while others report issues like creaking or stress on the frame structure. Can you share your personal experience regarding how durable the Ikea Platsa frame really is after assembly? And are there any tips on assembly or placement to maximize stability?
I can share a lot from my own experience. I assembled the Platsa nearly a year ago, and at first, the cabinet was placed freely in the living room without being attached to the wall. Initially, everything seemed very stable, but after a few weeks, I noticed slight noises, and it started to wobble minimally when leaning against it. That made me feel uneasy because the sense of safety was reduced. After that, I secured the cabinet to the wall, and since then, it has been stable again and feels solid.
So, I would say the Platsa modules are generally well designed, but they do rely on wall mounting. That gave me back my confidence and made me feel safer using it. This also confirms my impression that while the metal strips and screws are good, they alone do not guarantee full stability.
It is also important to be careful during assembly and not to over-tighten the screws to avoid damaging the material. For inexperienced DIYers, I recommend taking your time and working step by step.
