Good morning everyone, I am planning to get some Ikea Platsa furniture and would like to realistically estimate how much time I should allocate for the complete assembly. The specific question is: How long does it take to fully assemble Ikea Platsa furniture – for example, a standard set with several components – if you have moderate DIY experience but are not a professional? Are there any particular aspects of Platsa that increase the assembly effort compared to other Ikea furniture? I would greatly appreciate any experience-based feedback and perhaps some tips on how to make the assembly more efficient.

I think Platsa has something special! It’s not the quickest flat-pack system, but if you do it right, you end up with a real space saver. If you’re assembling it alone and don’t have much experience, you can expect to spend about 2 hours per cabinet, and it gets a bit tricky when you reach the doors. Take your time, listen to music or podcasts – this way, the assembly becomes a relaxed experience rather than a stressful one. And who knows, you might even discover a few clever storage solutions along the way.

Interesting question, Teo_li. Many people overestimate the assembly time or underestimate the effort involved. Let me ask you in return: How do you define "complete assembly"? Is it just putting together the main carcasses, or does it also include doors, drawers, internal fittings, and possibly fixing the unit to the wall? The time estimates can vary greatly. Also, what tools are you using? A suitable cordless drill can save a lot of time. Please also keep in mind that sorting all the small parts and fittings takes time, which is often overlooked.

To what extent can you describe these details more precisely so that I can give you tailored advice?

Thanks, Johnathon, very helpful! My planned system consists of three units, two with doors and one with drawers. I will probably be working alone and have a cordless drill available. The issue with the back panels and alignment sounds really important. Are there any special tips to avoid mistakes when aligning the units? I want to avoid any leaning or problems opening the doors in the end.

Hello Teo_li, the detail you described is very practical and relevant. When working with the Platsa system, it is essential to follow these steps for aligning the modules: 1 – Start with a level and stable base to assemble the modules on. 2 – Align each carcass perfectly vertically using a spirit level – small unevenness can cause issues with the doors later on. 3 – Be sure to use the included fixing points to secure the back panel, as they provide stability and prevent warping. 4 – Before final screwing, check the fit and movement of doors and drawers. If they stick, you can adjust the hinges (usually adjustable by screws) afterward. 5 – Always fix the modules to the wall with wall brackets to eliminate the risk of tipping. This improves safety and prevents damage over time. On average, you should allow about 6 to 7 hours for a three-module system with doors and drawers, especially if you are working alone and proceed carefully. Do you have any tools ready besides the cordless screwdriver? Perhaps a small screwdriver, hammer, and spirit level?

Definitely! I always built the cabinets first without the doors and checked if everything fit properly. Then I placed them on the floor and leveled them with a spirit level. If you have a small wooden wedge, you can easily adjust the cabinets before finally screwing or joining them together! This worked really well for me, and the doors closed perfectly. Patience really pays off here! Good luck, it will turn out great!
