Hello everyone, I have a specific issue with my IKEA Platsa drawers that I recently assembled. The drawers basically work, but they make unpleasant noises when opening and closing – ranging from squeaking to creaking sounds. I’m interested in understanding what might be causing these noises and how to best eliminate them. Are there particular lubricants recommended for this, or could adjustments to the drawer mechanisms be necessary? Perhaps the runners are not optimally installed or require fine-tuning? I would appreciate detailed advice on how to make the PLATSA drawers run as quietly and smoothly as possible. Thank you in advance!

Usually, it helps to clean the running rails and treat them with silicone spray. Also, check if everything is properly aligned.

The noises in PLATSA drawers often come from friction between the plastic guides and metal runners. First, you should thoroughly clean the runners – dust and fine wood shavings tend to accumulate there and reduce smooth movement. Next, I recommend applying a silicone-based lubricant, as it does not stick or attract dirt particles. Potential problem areas can also be imprecisely installed runners that may bend slightly – so check the screws and adjust them if necessary. Sometimes incorrect drawer insertion causes the guide to run unevenly, resulting in friction. Another possible cause is damaged or bent plastic strips on the drawer bottom that affect the movement path. What kind of noise are you hearing exactly? Is it more of a squeaking, creaking, or rattling? That helps narrow down the issue.

Thank you for asking. It is mainly a quiet but annoying squeaking when opening and closing slowly. The noise does not occur constantly, but rather occasionally, yet very regularly on both sides of the drawer.

That sounds like a lack of lubricant on the sliding rails. Use a silicone-based spray or a dry lubricant to stop the squeaking.

If the drawers squeak, a slight misalignment of the slides could also be the cause. Check whether the slides are mounted parallel and securely, otherwise they may rub.
