Hello everyone, I have a question about the durability of the Ikea Platsa series with normal use. How long does this space-saving system from Ikea typically last when used under average conditions, meaning without extreme stress or misuse? I am especially interested in aspects such as material durability, structural stability, and long-term use in an apartment. Does anyone have experience with whether the cabinets and shelves remain stable after several years, or if there are expected declines in functionality, like squeaking or wobbly components? Also, any tips on care or assembly to extend the lifespan would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have been using my PLATSA furniture for about 4 years. With normal use, there are no issues with stability or functionality. It is important that the assembly is done carefully. When the parts are correctly assembled, they will last for many years.

Regarding the durability of Ikea PLATSA, I can provide some facts: The furniture series is mainly made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) with a melamine-coated surface. These materials offer good durability under normal use and moderate load. The construction of the modules is modular, allowing stable connections, provided the assembly is done according to the instructions. Longer durability can be achieved by:
- Avoiding overloading
- Protecting against moisture
- Regularly checking screws and connections
User reports indicate that the furniture typically lasts 7 to 10 years without loss of function, and with proper care, it can last even longer.

I love PLATSA! 😊 I've had my wardrobe for 3 years and it still looks like new! Of course, I always made sure not to overload it and paid close attention during assembly. For the price, it's really a great deal and definitely recommended if you're looking for something flexible and durable! So don’t worry about durability issues – just assemble it properly and take good care of it, and you’ll be fine! 👍

I find this statement a bit too optimistic. Sure, you get a lot for the price, but you shouldn’t forget the limitations of cheap particleboard. After about five years, the joints may start to weaken, especially if the furniture is frequently moved or reassembled. Ikea tries to compensate for this with clever design, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s not solid wood quality. So anyone looking for a long-term solution should keep that in mind.

That’s a valid point, thanks for raising it! I’m interested to know if anyone can share specific experiences with wear and tear, such as loose joints, warping of the panels, or surface chipping? Also, how much does durability get affected by transport and repeated assembly? I’m planning a move and want to find out if I can be flexible with PLATSA or if it would be better to go with a different system.
