Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into the durability of IKEA Pax wardrobe doors in everyday use and would like to learn how long such a door realistically lasts with daily opening and closing, without significant damage or loss of function.
Specifically, I am interested in:
- How long do the hinges and mechanical parts typically last?
- Are there common weak points in the doors that tend to cause problems after some time?
- How often is it usually necessary to readjust or replace parts with daily use?
- Does anyone have experience with particular stresses, such as high humidity or very frequent opening?
I would appreciate reliable user experiences or technical assessments to better estimate the lifespan of Pax wardrobe doors under real-life conditions.
Thank you in advance!

Hello Zoekau,
I would like to add that besides mechanical durability, the quality of the installation also plays a crucial role.
- If doors are installed crookedly, wear on the hinges and wooden components increases.
- Excessive load from heavy storage can overload the hinges.
I have seen with several users that with careful installation and regular checks of the screws, a service life of 7–10 years is quite realistic.
If you like, I can give you some tips on how to properly make adjustments.
Just get in touch.

- If doors are installed crookedly, wear on the hinges and wooden components increases.I completely agree.
In my experience, with correct installation and maintenance, replacing individual hinges is often necessary after 8 to 10 years, while the doors themselves usually remain intact.
The design is functional but tends to save on high-quality materials in the hinge area.

How long do the hinges and mechanical parts last?To add: The hinges are often made of steel with a zinc coating to prevent corrosion. Plastic components are tested for durability according to IKEA quality standards and typically last several years under normal use.

Regularly tightening the screws. This should be done every 12 to 24 months, especially for frequently used doors.
Conclusion: For an average household, a lifespan of 7 to 10 years is realistic, provided the doors are not overloaded and the installation is done correctly.
