Hello everyone,

I am wondering how easy or difficult it really is to purchase spare parts for the Ikea Pax system. Specifically, I am interested in whether individual components like hinges, drawer runners, or inserts can be easily reordered if needed, or if this becomes complicated due to availability, item numbers, or the modular design.

Since the system is quite modular, I assume that spare parts are important to maintain functionality over time without having to replace entire cabinet sections.

Has anyone had experience with how well Ikea supports individual spare parts? Are there any limitations, such as availability only in stores, online, or with delivery? How would you rate this from a customer perspective based on your experience?

I look forward to feedback and opinions, including any tips or tricks for obtaining spare parts!

From my experience, obtaining replacement parts for Ikea Pax is generally well organized, but with some limitations:

- Ikea does offer many replacement parts individually, especially commonly used ones like hinges, drawer slides, or handles.
- You can often order these online through the Ikea spare parts page or inquire in-store.
- However, some special parts or older components have been discontinued and can be difficult to find.
- It is usually necessary to know the exact article numbers, which can be complicated with custom Pax configurations.

My advice: Use the original product description and try to have photos or part names ready when ordering to avoid mistakes.

Thanks for the information.

It sounds like it might be challenging to find replacement parts for older Pax models, for example, right? I was wondering whether it makes a difference if you need replacement parts many years after purchase, or if they tend to be produced for quite a long time.

Does anyone know if there is a time limit regarding Ikea’s availability of replacement parts? Are there maximum periods after which parts are no longer supplied?

Here is a brief overview of ordering replacement parts for Pax:

1. Replacement parts are often available up to 10 years after purchase – Ikea provides spare parts for a considerable time.
2. Important: Having the exact article number or product name greatly simplifies the order process.
3. Individual fittings (e.g., hinges, drawer runners), shelves, and fronts can be ordered separately.
4. Older models may pose challenges if they have been completely discontinued.
5. If a part is no longer available, the following strategies are recommended:
- Contact customer service
- Visit your local Ikea store, as they sometimes keep remaining stock
- Consider alternative uses of compatible parts

In summary: Replacement parts are mostly available, but it is advisable to order promptly when a defect occurs to ensure availability.

The limit is somewhat of a mystery. Ikea is more interested in you buying new furniture than in you needing spare parts indefinitely.

Sometimes I wonder if the spare parts situation is intentionally confusing, to encourage buying new rather than repairing. If you have a complex Pax system, spare parts can be hard to identify or may suddenly cost more than part of the wardrobe itself.

Anyone thinking long-term should keep this in mind and might be better off choosing more durable systems or different manufacturers from the start. But that’s just my opinion.

I would disagree with that.

Ikea offers a comprehensive range of spare parts that provide good value for the average customer. Many spare parts can be ordered individually without much effort. However, availability largely depends on whether the models are current and if the part numbers are available.

The system is modular, which generally makes sourcing spare parts quite straightforward. Of course, very old or specialized parts can be more difficult to obtain—this is true for any furniture manufacturer.

My conclusion: For the average user, reordering parts is simple; for very specific custom requests or older models, it can become more complex.
