Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble a large Ikea Pax wardrobe system myself and have already done some research. However, I still have a few questions about the practical implementation, especially regarding the best approach when working with multiple units and side panels to ensure stability and even alignment.

I am particularly interested in how you organize the process: do you assemble each module completely on its own and then connect them at the end? Or do you install directly near the wall and connect them step by step?

Also, I wonder what the best method is for adjusting the cabinets so that doors and drawers fit perfectly when connecting a whole row. Are there any tips for securing the units to the wall, or which tools are especially useful?

I would appreciate detailed experiences, handling tips, and also advice on common pitfalls. Thanks in advance!

For large Pax wardrobe units, it is important to distribute the load evenly onto the wall.

Absolutely, Charles! When the stability is right, the whole thing stands securely and stress-free.

Personally, I always find it helpful to have some good music playing during assembly – it makes the process at least a bit more enjoyable 😄

And speaking of adjustment: Sometimes a little trick helps – first loosely screw the modules together, then let them sit overnight and tighten all the screws again the next day. This way, all parts settle, and the doors will align better later.

So keep at it, it’s definitely worth it! 👍

And regarding doors: They are quite sturdy, but avoid exposure to high humidity or direct sunlight.

Good to know, thanks! Since I can’t ventilate the room very well, I will probably use a dehumidifier.

Regarding door warping: Doors made of MDF or solid wood core can expand due to moisture.

Thanks, Charles, I’ll keep that in mind when choosing the material.

Also, I wanted to ask something else: How do you handle lighting in a large Pax wardrobe? I’m considering whether to include LED strips from the start or if it’s easier to add them later on.

Good question! I recommend integrating the lighting into the wardrobe planning from the start – either installing LED strips or spotlights during assembly, or at least allowing for cable ducts. This will save you a lot of effort later and ensures everything is neatly installed.

Many Ikea Pax models offer modular LED systems that fit well. Retrofitting the lighting later can be more complicated because you might need to partially dismantle the units.

So: plan the lighting as early as possible and, if needed, use power strips with switches that can be hidden behind the wardrobes.

If you need tips on cable routing, just let me know!
