Hello everyone,

I recently ordered an Ikea Pax wardrobe and am currently quite satisfied with the basic structure. However, I am looking for ways to enhance my Pax with special interior fittings that go beyond the standard Ikea range. I am interested not only in additional storage space but also in customizable solutions, such as more specialized compartment divisions, lighting, or integrated organization tools.

Do you have any experience or recommendations regarding suitable upgrades that can be customized or retrofitted? I am especially interested in tips for optimizing the use of interior space, as well as enhancements that are not only functional but also durable and of high quality. I would like to know which additions are really worthwhile and if you have encountered any problems or limitations when expanding the Pax system.

Thanks in advance for your feedback and suggestions!

Hello Remkodu,

Your concern is very understandable, as the Pax is indeed a flexible system but does have certain limitations in its standard configuration—especially when it comes to individual requirements. I can share a few points that I considered and implemented while customizing my Pax system:

- Custom divisions: Instead of using just the IKEA boxes, I worked with plastic sorting trays and custom-made wooden inserts. You can also have these measured and made by a carpenter, since the interior dimensions of Pax wardrobes are quite standardized.

- Lighting: LED light strips with sensors (e.g., motion sensors on the door) can be easily retrofitted. It is important to use low voltage and keep cables well hidden to maintain the minimalist look.

- Organizer expansions: Drawers with compartments or hanging systems (e.g., two-level clothes rails) add a lot of order.

A potential pitfall is the weight of drawers and shelves, so I opted for high-quality fittings, which IKEA itself sometimes does not offer optimally.

Could you specify which type of interior setup is most important to you? More storage through drawers, ventilation, lighting, or perhaps a combination?

This is an important point that I would like to emphasize. Many users overlook that the original components often cannot handle heavier loads. It makes sense to carefully assess the stresses that the Pax system has to endure in everyday use. It is worthwhile to look at hardware manufacturers or alternatives from specialized retailers to improve durability.

Additionally, it would be important to clarify whether your main concern is appearance or truly functionality and longevity. Depending on your priority, some modifications are more cosmetic, while others actually add value.

In any case, I recommend comparing any independent modifications with the technical specifications of the furniture to avoid introducing weak points.

I think it’s great that you are taking such a detailed approach with your Pax!

I personally struggled for a long time deciding whether to go with the standard setup or invest more. In the end, I added a few extra drawers and LED lighting – which really improved my experience using the wardrobe. The lighting especially helps with visibility while keeping everything looking clean.

What I also learned is that some upgrades only make sense if they fit your personal organization style. For me, it was important to have enough small compartments, so I bought additional organizers.

If you like, I can also share which parts I’ve installed so far and which I would return.

Hey Remkodu,

I think it’s great that you want to customize your Pax wardrobe! 😄 Here are a few easy tips from my experience:

- Adding self-adhesive LED strips under the shelves creates a cozy atmosphere and is really helpful in everyday use.
- Brightly colored boxes and bins are not only fun but also great for staying organized.
- For a touch of luxury: embroidered fabric baskets – they look elegant and feel great.

But the most important tip: set it up so you enjoy looking inside every day. Stylish organization definitely works! If you like smart solutions, you might also consider magnetic tools that you can move around flexibly.

I’m curious to see what you come up with!

In summary, I would like to address the aspect of retrofitting objectively:

IKEA itself offers a wide range of additional modules for the PAX, but there are also several options beyond that:

- Third-party drawer systems, customized to the interior dimensions, increase storage capacity and improve organization.
- Low-heat lighting systems (LED) integrate well; a key point is simple power supply, preferably battery-operated or plugged in with concealed cable management.
- Separate removable organizers enhance flexibility.

All retrofits should be of high quality in terms of materials and workmanship, as the PAX is designed for long-term use. However, retrofitting very heavy components should be avoided or technically well secured.

Please note that when using custom-made inserts, precise measurements are crucial since the storage space is very limited and exact.
