Hello everyone, I have an issue with the drawers of my IKEA Brimnes bed—they often get stuck when I pull them out or push them back in. It feels like the mechanism is not running smoothly or something is blocking it, although I haven’t noticed anything unusual with or inside the drawers themselves.

My goal is to understand the best way to proceed to make the drawers fully functional again without problems. Are there common causes that often lead to such issues? How can the sliding mechanism be properly checked, and are there simple steps or tools to fix the problem on my own?

I have been considering whether the drawer slides might need adjustment or if the construction sometimes requires some rework. I would appreciate it if someone could share their experience and specific advice—especially proven methods or potential causes. Thanks in advance!

The issue of sticking drawers in IKEA BRIMNES is usually caused by one of two factors: either misaligned drawer slides or dirt in the sliding mechanism.

To address this, I recommend the following steps:
- First, pull the drawer out completely and check for any damage or dirt in the sliding track area.
- Clean the guides with a dry cloth to remove dust or fibers. Moisture or oil are generally counterproductive.
- Then check if the drawer slides are aligned straight. Sometimes they are slightly bent or not properly installed.
- If the slide is bent, it can be gently corrected with pliers, but only minimally.
- When reinserting the drawer, press it in evenly to ensure the rollers or sliding elements engage correctly.

If the drawer still sticks after cleaning and aligning, there could be hidden damage to the roller mechanism or the edges. In that case, a closer inspection or replacement of damaged parts is advisable – both are usually straightforward with IKEA beds.

These steps are well suited for DIY; only a few tools are needed: a cloth, possibly small pliers, or a screwdriver.

Dopoki sums it up well. I would like to add that the plastic rollers used for the drawer slides in BRIMNES are often worn out or damaged. This frequently causes the drawers to move jerkily or get stuck. I recommend checking the rollers if there are existing problems and replacing them if necessary.

Furthermore, it is advisable to inspect the guide rails for any deformation and proper fastening. The screws in particular can loosen over time with occasional use, which can affect the function.

One more tip: if the frame is slightly warped, for example due to moisture or an uneven floor, the entire system tends to catch. In that case, you should ensure stability and levelness. Ultimately, a combination of cleaning, checking all mechanical components, and minor adjustments usually resolves the problem.

I always find it fascinating how small things like drawers sliding in and out can drive us crazy 😅. Especially with the BRIMNES beds, I’ve often had issues with drawers sticking—particularly when there’s something heavier inside.

What really helped me was regularly checking the sliding rails for lint or dust build-up. The most annoying culprits are tiny fluff particles that are hardly visible but can seriously slow down the drawer.

I also have a little secret: a very small drop (just a tiny amount!) of silicone spray on the rollers or guides makes the movement much smoother for me. Important: use it very sparingly, otherwise it attracts dust and does the opposite!

If you feel comfortable, you can also try tightening the screws on the side panels. A bit of adjustment can make a big difference and is quicker than you think.

So, don’t let BRIMNES win – with a bit of maintenance, it will work perfectly again!

Pull the drawer out completely, clean the drawer slides, and check for any damage. Tighten the screws on the slide rails. Inspect the plastic rollers and replace them if necessary. Then carefully reinstall the drawer and test its operation.
