ᐅ How can I prevent the MALM bed from sliding on a smooth floor?

MaxkarHello everyone,
I have a MALM bed from IKEA standing on a very smooth laminate floor. I keep noticing that the bed slips slightly when I sit down or get up. This is not only annoying but also somewhat unsafe, especially when getting into bed half asleep at night.
My question: What is the best way to secure the MALM bed against slipping on a smooth floor without damaging the floor or the furniture? Are there any specific products or DIY solutions that have proven effective?
It is important to me that the solution is stable, long-lasting, and at the same time protects the floor. I would appreciate any tips!

It is important to ensure the pads are compatible with the materials to avoid leaving any residue.
Additionally, make sure the anti-slip pads are large enough to distribute the weight and minimize sliding.

A simple solution is self-adhesive felt pads under the bed legs.I can totally confirm that! I have exactly those under my MALM bed, and it stays completely stable! 🙂
It works even better if you clean the legs lightly beforehand so the adhesive sticks properly. Then nothing wobbles or slides anymore – a great, low-cost solution!
Hello Maxkar,
I assume you are referring to the standard MALM bed with the typical plinth-style legs, right? On smooth floors like laminate or hardwood, slipping issues often occur because these surfaces offer very low friction.
There are several practical approaches:
1. Stick rubber or silicone anti-slip pads directly under the bed legs. These are specifically designed to secure furniture without leaving residues or damaging the floor.
2. Self-adhesive felt pads prevent the bed from scratching the floor. However, on very smooth surfaces, they may offer limited slip resistance—combining them with anti-slip pads is recommended here.
3. Special multi-layer mats made from cork or rubber placed under the bed can also be very effective, as they create an additional friction layer.
4. Also, check if the bed legs are straight and level. A slight imbalance can cause the bed to slide more easily.
If you prefer a DIY solution, I suggest screwing soft, rubberized pads onto small wooden blocks that are then attached to the legs.
If you want to avoid permanently adhesive options, there are slip-resistant mats made of soft rubber that you can simply place under the bed. This is quick to implement and protects the floor.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

I recommend the combination of special rubber anti-slip pads that can be placed under the feet, along with self-adhesive felt pads underneath to prevent scratches. This is a very useful tip, especially the combination.
Additionally, I would like to point out that it is important to consider material compatibility to avoid long-term damage to the feet or the floor. What many do not expect is the effect of moisture in the air or cleaning solutions, which can affect the adhesives.
Therefore, I recommend choosing high-quality, durable materials and testing small areas beforehand.
