Hello everyone, I currently have a problem with one of my Ikea Metod drawers and I’m looking for a quick, practical solution to repair it myself.
The drawer no longer closes smoothly, the slides feel stiff, and I suspect that either the rollers are damaged or misaligned. This concerns a kitchen drawer, so a fast repair would be ideal since I use the kitchen daily.
Is there a step-by-step guide or proven tips for fixing this yourself without having to remove the entire drawer or replace the whole system?
I look forward to your experiences and advice!

That matches my experience. The small plastic stoppers often get slightly misaligned or pop out, which significantly affects the function. Sometimes I’ve carefully readjusted them, and that has made the drawer slide smoothly again without having to buy new parts.
Don’t worry, with a little patience you can usually fix it yourself quite well.

whether the repair usually involves just cleaning and lubricating or if parts often need to be replacedGood question. In my experience, repairs to Metod drawers mostly involve cleaning and lubricating. A common issue is a dusty or sticky roller that hardly moves. This can be fixed without replacing any parts.
I’ve only needed replacement parts in exceptional cases, for example, when rollers break due to overloaded drawers or the rails get bent. But that is really rare.
If you want to do it quickly, I would proceed as follows:
- Clean and lubricate
- Check the stoppers
- Inspect the rollers visually
Only if all this isn’t enough, order replacement parts. This way, you can usually avoid the repair taking too much time.
