Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago, I bought an Ikea Besta furniture piece that looks very practical and modern. However, I have the problem that grease stains and general dirt settle on the surfaces faster than expected, especially in the kitchen where the furniture is also located. Now I would like to know how I can remove these grease stains and other dirt from the BESTA as quickly and efficiently as possible, without damaging the surface or spending too much time.

Which cleaning agents and methods are best suited for this? Are there any home remedies that work, or should I rely on specialized products?

I look forward to your experiences and tips!

Hello FAR32,

For quick and effective cleaning of grease stains on Ikea BESTA, I usually find a mix of warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap works great. Just use a soft cloth to avoid scratching the surface and gently wipe the stains.

I think classic home remedies usually do the job—for example, a little vinegar or lemon juice for tougher stains. But be careful, the surface is delicate, so avoid scrubbing too hard.

Don’t forget to dry afterward, or it can quickly look streaky. This keeps the furniture fresh and shiny—almost like new. 😉

For the proper and gentle cleaning of Ikea BESTA furniture, which is usually coated with melamine or laminate, I recommend the following systematic approach:

- For grease stains, use a solution of warm water and a neutral dish soap to dissolve the grease molecules.
- Use soft microfiber cloths, as they are less abrasive and protect the surface.
- For stubborn dirt, a vinegar-water mixture in a 1:1 ratio can be used, but be careful with sensitive surfaces since vinegar may dull the finish.
- After cleaning, immediately dry the surface with a clean, dry cloth to prevent water spots and streaks.

Special cleaning products are generally not necessary, but if they have an unsuitable composition, they can damage the surface. Household remedies are effective when applied correctly. Daily or regular light cleaning helps to prevent stubborn grease build-up.

Here, I would rather recommend a mild all-purpose cleaner that is specifically designed for coated furniture. Vinegar can sometimes damage the surface.

For quick grease removal, simply use dish soap with warm water, dampen a cloth, wipe, and dry. Done.
